Ok, here's the story. I worked at a mortgage company for about a year and a half, they just recently went out of business. Luckily I was able to line another job up and have been working here for about 30 days. It's in the financial services industry also and they are now going to layoff about 30 people, the new people are part of that group. If I get layed off, can I still get unemployment until I find another job? I have kids also, so providing for them is my main concern. Thanks for the info and advice.

And I am actively searching for a job and have been since I've started here. I'm just making sure I have all my bases covered.....just in case.

So then why are you online here instead of out lining up another job immediately?

Yes you'll be able to. You might not have enough time in with the new job to collect from that - 30 days usually isn't enough - but the time on your old job will count too so you'll be OK. When you apply for unemployment you'll show both the current job and the previous one.

Good luck in finding a new job quickly though, and one that lasts.

I would think since you were at your old job for such a long time that you will be able to collect. Best thing to do is get down to the unemployment office asap and file a claim. I wish you a lot of luck!

I think that it depends on if you are a commissioned employee. I think that you may have a harded time trying to file for it if you are. You should call your states department of jobs and family services and find out asap.
