I sold a car to someone I thought was my friend. Now, they wont pay me the rest of the money. They sold the car to someone else but I still have the title in my name. What can I do to get the money or the car back?

The car belongs to you.

you did not say what state you live in> In Ca you as the seller are required to report the sale within 10 days. If that car is used for something illegal or in an accident the law will be contacting you and you will hve some explaining to do. Check your states responsibility laws. Actually in Ca the car would never be considered stolen if you gave the keys to someone.

Report the car stolen. Work out the legal details after you regain possession of the car.

The best you can do is sue them for non payment. The person who owes you money never legally owned the car so they can't sell it. The person they sold it to can probably sue them as well.

Call your lawyer, if you did not sign off on the title because they did not pay you for the car the car is stolen.

Not so fast. Verbal contracts will hold up in court however you would still be able to go after them for non-payment. And they were never allowed to sell the car that did not legally belong to them anyway.
