This link has a list off all the toy breeds and pictures. If you click on them it gives information about the breed. Remind your daughter that the dog is not an accessory but a living creature and it still needs, exercise, dicipline, and affection. Paris Hilton has people who care for her dog when she isn't flaunting it around. You daughter won't have that luxury. What is it with teenage girls idolizing Paris Hilton? She's an anorexic alcoholic with no moral standards. I don't get it. Whatever you do don't buy a "designer" breed. People who breed those dogs are just looking for a quick dollar and have no concern for the genetic health of their dogs. You would most likely be spending lots of money on vet bills due to skin conditions, joint problems, ligament support issues, ect.

First, who is "they" that told you your dog is this mixed breed of husky and maltese? There really is no 100% way to find out, unless you knew what this dog's parents were to start with, but you have lots of breeds to pick from. Maltese dogs are a small breed dog, about the size of shih tzsu, or lhasa apso. Unless the mom is a siberian who was literally laying down, it would be impossible. And as long as your dog is healthy, loved and well taken cared of, who really cares? just make sure to give your dog lots of exercise, discipline, and affection, and they will love you back forever! if you are still wanting to find out, find a book on different breeds that include general dispositions and typical traits. There's only 500 or so different breeds to pick from. Make a ton of coffee, and good luck!!

It's really cute to carry around those little dogs, but can be high maintenance. The extremely small dogs have special health issues that can cost you a lot in the long run. They also can't be left alone outside of a cage because they are so fragile. I'm not saying you shouldn't get one, but you should consider how much it will cost to take care of it before making the commitment. Good luck finding the best dog for your situation.

get her a Yorkie teacup, they are precious, or maybe a miniature long-haired dahtsund. she needs a precious dog to compliment her, not out do her because she is of course the princess, and she needs a doggie purse with pink rhinestones all over it , and the dog needs a matching pink rhinestone collar. i'm excited just for your daughter! she's going to be so excited.
and your daughter will be just fine with a 5 lb. dog , she will know how to pamper it, can you believe how many people on here think they are so intelligent that they need to give parenting classes.... give me a break! they probley don't even have kids!

Such a small dog for a child is probably not a good idea. A dog that is 5 lbs is extremely fragile and prone to broken bones. If the dog jumps off a peice of furniture, there could be a possibility of a high vet bill.
Mayeb you should reconsider your reasons for getting this dog. Your daughter wants to put it in a purse? That is ridiculous. Eventually, she will grow tired of it, and you will be stuck taking care if it for the rest of it's life.

What about a Tea Cup Yorkie, they are about the same size and are very very affectionate, more so than Snappy Chihuahua's. They are very cute and can be trained quite easily. But bear in mind these high bred dogs and the small ones in particular do ail a lot, and are frequently at the vets.

I to wanted a chihuahua at one time but don't ever get a small dog. All they do is bark and yip at your heals. I prefer the labrador retriever. Loyal, large, lap dog that's good for something rather than being dressed up and put in a purse.

Who is the puppy for? Your daughter? Is she picking the breed because of the size? Riding around in a purse is not all that great, and I would think that there are other celebrities that she could emulate that would be more deserving than Ms Paris. Sorry if this answer offends, it is not meant to, it is just what I think. There are several breeds of dogs that remain small, mini pinchers, shipoos (I have one, is only 3 lbs now) chis, like Paris's, etc) You know, there are very vew places of businesses that one can carry a dog in, even if it is in a purse. I would suggest to my daughter to reevaluate why she wants a puppy and why she wants to carry it around in a purse.

There are many excellent breeds of dogs to choose from.
However your requirement that it be 5 pounds does limit you selection.
That is, of course if you need it to be alive.
Barring that prerequisite, your choices are many. You may want to look into stuffed dogs. While they are not very affectionate, they are very light and easy to take care of.
A big plus, in your case, would be that instead of having to cram a snarling beast into your princesses purse, you can have the dog made into one!
I hope I have been of help.
