I heard that theres a program called Mistvah, or something..I can't recall, that allows Jews from all over to join even if you have prior U.S Military service. So, say you have 4 years in the Marines, will the IDF still take you? SERIOUS answers please.

There are two ways to serve with IDF as foreigner: Mahal2000 and Sar-El. The Mahal2000 program is for non-Israeli Jewish men younger than 23 and women younger than 20. The program consists of 18 months of IDF service. Sar-El is a program for Jews and non-Jews over 16 years. It usually consists of three weeks unarmed auxiliary service with (not in) the IDF.

From what I remember, if you live for 1 year continualy in Israel you are eligible to be called up for service, no matter what nationality, thats why many foreign nationals always make a holiday in Cyprus for 1 week of the year.

my friend was in the Israeli military, and what he told me was that you had to 1st be Jewish, and 2nd, you had to be a citizen of Israel. i don't know if that has changed since he was in... that's a very good question though... i'd like to know the answer myself... good luck.
