The Bible consists of tales that were told around the campfire for entertainment purposes, and was later used for crowd control. I took a whole course in school studying the Bible as a literary work, and while there are people and events that could have possibly happened, the fact of the matter is that people take it too literally. It's supposed to be stories to model your moral code after, not historical references!

I suggest this service: http://phonedetectives.co - The best reverse cell phone lookup service.

It's a cheap service that works great! It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names.. you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers.

You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone! The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory or personal information and they simply require your email to send spam. The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory.

The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise! Trust it!

Reverse Phone Lookup area gives you additional access to millions of public records, including:

+ Find out the source of a harassing ("prank") caller
+ Research a number that appeared on your phone bill
+ Locate an old friend from high school or college
+ Research "missed calls" on your caller ID that you don't recognize
+ Verify an address
+ And more...

PhoneDetectives - http://phonedetectives.co

Conduct an instant reverse phone lookup. 100% Confidentail and Instant Results!

If you thumb through its pages to construct criticizm of what you can't understand and then go and giggle at your own stupidity and lack of spiritual wisdom. You've also gotten from it what you sought after. You’ll find plenty of misunderstanding.

It is written that God intentionally gives arrogant and ungodly people over to confusion. He will give you nothing out of insincerity. Because He isn't insincere. He did this to Pharoah. God allowed Pharoah's arrogance to deceive him and harden his heart to the extent that it cost him everything. Including his power and his beloved 1st born child.

This will happen again to people in this age. Hence: “They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful DELUSION so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” 2 Thessalonians 2.

They have already lied to themselves the day they decided upon their refusal of that which they CLAIM to seek. The truth evaded them the moment they began in their personal agendas against God. That’s why when Christians are asked a question they get such nasty and degenerate responses.

What audacity to try and test those with knowledge with things the tester cannot even fathom. It’s worse than ‘he said she said’. Many nonbelievers have a seething festering (like a glass splinter) resentment for the truth. It bothers them so much that it nudges others when they scratch.

A question is a question. But some don't even possess the moral dignity to treat others beliefs with respect. It speaks volumes about those people's character and their underlying intentions. Misery loves company.

So they can search the bible all they want and will find nothing but gibberish. Like reading source code to the technologically illiterate. Not until they open their hearts and close their mouths will they begin to understand God's eternal life giving message.

The only evidence that I can find is geographical i.e. locations of cities that existed or terrain features. (needless to say many fiction books contain this).

Some other possibilities but not well developed or compelling:
The Babylonian Talmud references a Jesus, but he went through a forty day trial period and was stoned.

Pilate was recently found to exist.

The Chinese recorded an asteroid around 3 BCE.

I'm unclear of how much of the OT history (being conquered, wars etc) has actually been verified. It should be noted that many fictional books are also very accurate on history.

If you compare the NT writings to other ancient writings, it is significantly more credible. The sheer number of copies and the closeness between the events and the writing is incredible compared to other ancient texts that are accepted without a second thought. Why is Scripture doubted? Because of its controversial content. The claims that it makes are astounding, and people do not want to believe it and therefore they discredit it without a second thought. I could go into more detail if I have the time, but I simply don't right now.

Dougness,

There are many places you can go to, and many people you can ask for the answer you are looking for. It will take a lot of money because you will have to travel the world to find the many different artifacts that have been used to write the scripture that can show you the way of life. Or, you can go to a local store and purchase a Bible of your choice. I prefer, " The Criswell Study Bible". There's some history in the Bible, but most Christians use it as a reference book on how to live your life. The scripture provides uplifting words for your soul to feast upon. It can also provide reasoning for ones soul, such as "Warnings", what not to do with the priceless life that the Lord has given you. A simple lesson that most of us are taught at a very young age is, "Do unto others how you will have them do unto you". One of my favorites is," Your walk talks and your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks". There are many lessons in the Holy Bible and they all make sense to the understandiing soul. Let me ask you a question, no answer necessary. What creates the hunger within you for the knowledge of the Holy Bible? Is it hatred, ask yourself. Every human being that walks the face of this earth has to be responsible for their own actions. Most of us are born with a soul that feels Love, Joy, Peace and Happiness, others fill their heart and soul with Hatred and sorrow. Believe it or not most Christians are saved, or get to know Christ through times of Hardships, whatever they may be. Once Christ accepts you into his life the Scriptures take on a whole new meaning. The words of Light and Darkness pop right out at you and grab you in a way you have never been touched before! That's what makes the Holy Bible creditable to me! God Bless..

For you it is not credible evidence and was never meant to be that. The book is only written for a very few people actually and is more like a guideline of how to be good and right with God.
But in the world there are three types of people. Worldly or Gentiles that are confused by the words of the Bible and they see many contradictions and even lies in the words of the Bible and worldly people seek wisdom more than God.
There are what the Bible calls make-believers these people have been called by God to know the truth but for whatever reason decided to go their own way; they become the enemy of God's people and try to hinder people searching for God also. They are also called religious people, Sunday church goers, self righteous, lovers of self more than lovers of God, and this was what Jesus Christ was against most was these types of people. These people have a form of Godliness but deny the power of God to change anything.Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

Now the third type of person is a true believer and they are very rare type of people, but they are a joy to be around and their spirit is good and right and are more encouraging than discouraging. These types or people are lights in a very dark and evil world and these people hear God speaking from the words of the Bible and these also are who it is written for and to as a love letter about who their lover is and his desires and needs and wants, so it is no great surprise you do not understand or believe because maybe the book is not written for you at all; Malachi 1:2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,

Two brothers in same family but God hate Esau even before he was born; Romans 9:11(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) Romans 9:12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
Romans 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

God knew the seed and knew it would be evil so he didn't even call that person to be saved!Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

The Bible is a recordation of the events in ancient times with the Isrealites, or Hebrews. It is not the Word of God. It is a recordation of the Word of God.
The actual Word of God, or rather Words of God, was as when Moses spoke with God in a partially materialized form of a cloud in the Tent of Testimony (it was a materialization tent - we see similar today with materialization mediums such as Mirabelli in Brazil - google that name...).
There are translation problems which lead the honest seeker of truth to a question of whether it is true or not.
Fundamental Christians, for fear that they will lose their entire faith if they question tradition, choose not to look at the facts. Others, who merely seek God Himself, find it easier to drop personal traditional beliefs in seeking God Himself, via the holy spirits (angels) who still communicate with mankind daily. We usually see them in the form of a good conscience, and sometimes there are stories in the media of a miraculous healing or rescue (such as invisible hands holding a person on a mountain side until the helicopter gets there).
You might want to read a book on this, and of the mainstream teachings of what was understood in the Bible - all very researchable and able to confirm whether it is true or not.
It is not a religious book, but translated from the German from almost 80 years ago. "Communication with the Spirit World of God - It's Laws and Purpose, Personal Experiences of a Catholic Priest" by Johannes Greber (Amazon $12).8th edition. Incidentally, Greber left the church after he realized he could ask God personally and audibly receive an answer back - even daily. He could not accept the errors of that church after he discovered the truth.
Good luck with your search.

Evidence for what?

Some parts are polemical in nature and judgments are made from view points within the priestly community, say. For example, Omri gets short shrift in the OT, but Isreal was referred to by other histories as the House of Omri for some generations.

Some parts are personal reflections, some poetry, some verses originally set to music.

All of these are "evidence" of a living, breathing community and its beliefs.
