I can't see how. But then, perhaps their purpose is not to convince others of the truth of their position. Atheists rarely believe they can (or care to) convince believers to stop believing.
It is a very adolescent thing to believe you can change someone with ridicule. People who are susceptible to peer pressure to that extent will sometimes pretend to change for the sake of ending the teasing, but if they really do change because of the rudeness of others, I would recommend they see a therapist.
If you really want to know how Christians ought to behave, look up Quiet Warrior, a born-again Christian who is nevertheless able to make friends with all sorts of people including myself, a witch. I think she chose her name well, don't you?

Excellent point.
It seems that very few Christians have either the intelligence, or the patience to present their believes in an appealing and convincing way. So they resort to attempting to bully or scare non-believers. It is a very lazy way to try to witness to someone, Jesus never did it that way.
At the same time some non-believers (atheist, agnostic, or followers of a different religion) have an illogical hatred for Christians. If you are truly an atheist, why would it matter to you that I am a Christian. You believe there is no God, my belief that there is is in no way harming you. Why would you wish me ill? Why would you want to take away something that provides me so much comfort.
I really do not understand why people on both sides of the argument do not learn to respect each others choices. Especially the Christians, we should know better.

Yes, but few people are genuinely interested in coverting others. Maybe this is because most people simply cant be convinced when it comes to religion or politics, so we argue just for the sake of arguing. An atheist will never convince a hardcore christian, in the same way that a christian will never convince an atheist.

It is not about being rude or setting an example. It is about respecting others point of view no matter what the view is.Every christian should respect a non believers view and every atheist should respect a believers view. Respect doesnt mean getting influenced by others, It just means allowing the other person to chose for himself!

No I wouldn't desrespect someone in behalf of my beliefs because Jesus was loving and caring not rude or hateful. Since I do believe in hell then yes, I would warn others about hell and tell of the horrors. Not in trying to necessarily convert or scare someone, but in hope of opening their eyes before they burn forever. 140,000 people die everyday and go to stand before God almighty. Noone on here believes me, but that's ok. I just want to share my beliefs with others in hope of an awakening. If they won't hear the Lord which speaks thru me, then they have hardened their hearts and so the Lord will not hear them. I want to lead others in a way that is straight to the heart, and without offending them. Just like Jesus did when he spoke in parables.

I think Uncle John nailed it. And I agree with you. That's what make this country so wonderful. We all have the right to believe what we want. We cannot stuff our beliefs down anyones throat. I am a Christian, and I will share what I believe to anyone who will listen but if you don't want to hear it, that's OK too. I won't condemn anyone who does not believe what I do, that is not up to me.

Well as a christian I never just say " your going to hell" to anyone, though they may get that from something I say indirectley. I tell the truth as I know it. I don't water it down to save someones feelings. I care more for their soul than their feelings, but I do try to be respectful. If people feel a battle within because of what I say then they are in luck because that means the Holy spirit is still battling for them, that's a good thing.

I keep hearing this "you are going to hell" line over n over n over by so many atheist and they claim everyone says it.
Sorry, but I have been on here for over a year and I have yet to see someone state " you better do it or you are going to hell".
So I must assume atheists have just blown anther thing out of proportion and have no facts to back up this statement along w/ the rest.
Both sides are ignorant for trying to spread anything as both sides lack facts. Both sides are responsible for the anger that abounds before us.

The mind works in mysterious ways sometimes. What I read and seemingly forgot about many years ago, if it created a strong memory, can come back now and feel like it is my very own creation. lol. an inspiration even.
It definitely won't get one points on Y/A.
The best teaching method is that of being a living example.
