Conservatives might do well to listen to Newt:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

This is just more nonsense by the Senator from Big Oil.

Here's the truth. The "skeptics" are few in numbers, if noisy. EVERY major scientific organization, including the official National Academy of Sciences says global warming is real and mostly caused by us.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change

Even the article you cite says only 32 papers of 528 were skeptical, by the author's skeptical claim.

The bottom line:

"The fact that the community overwhelmingly supports the consensus is evidenced by picking up any copy of Journal of Climate or similar, any scientific program at the meetings, or simply going to talk to scientists. I challenge you, if you think there is some un-reported division, show me the hundreds of abstracts that support your view - you won't be able to. You can argue whether the consensus is correct, or what it really implies, but you can't credibly argue it doesn't exist."

Dr. James Baker - NOAA

The vast majority of scientists know that global warming is real and mostly caused by us. You can claim it's all a giant conspiracy, as ridiculous as that is. You can claim it's all because of Al Gore, which is even more absurd. But you can't credibly argue the scientific consensus doesn't exist.

You may not agree with it, but it is not a hoax. Certainly the rising CO2 levels are well documented. Everybody agrees with that. The oil companies, Dick Cheney and everyone agrees with that. And as the source shows, the levels have suddenly (on a geological time scale 200 years is sudden) jumped up far beyond any natural cycle of the last 400,000 years. How much of an effect it will have is the only argument. Regardless of how much effect you think it will be, and how long it will take, at some point there WILL be an effect.

Politically it doesn't pay to fight the believers. If the consensus claimed the world was flat and the Sun revolved around the Earth, the politicians would say they are right.

After all, who would vote for a politician that spoke against the church of global warming?

The Romans had a term for this. It was "Vox populi, vox dei".

You will be throwing your money in the floods caused by climate change instead. Or maybe the wildfires, or maybe you'll be paying more for food since honey bees and coral reef fish nurseries are declining.

Tell you what. I'll flood my backyard and you can throw your cash there. I'll use it to fund research on climate change.

You need to check your Websters, or the website below to see what a hoax is.

Just for you to know where climate protection money goes (I made it so simple that everybody can understand very complicated processes)

- into our industry to improve processes (own abatements of CO2)
- to China (and other developing countries) to improve the processes (also useful)
- to India to turn a millionaire into an even richer man (HFC emission reduction credits)
- in the hand of companies and administration running the system (running costs like everywhere)
- 2% for adaptation to climate change

If we don't throw our money at global warming the environmental groups are waiting to throw your money in the river.

So don't worry, your money will go down a hole one way or the other.
