If so, does this possibly explain why some prayers seem to be answered?

anything that even remotely resembles the filling of a prayer is a success to a fundie...

'god I really need to have enough gas to get to the next station. Can you help me out here? WOW look!!! a SLIGHT downhill grade about three feet long!!! praise god!!!'

anything can be a sucess if you tell yourself it is enough times...

Yes and yes. Placebo effect and expectancy performance are both well-documented.

There have been Buddhist Monks who have meditated to where they could not feel pain. Surgery has been performed on patients who were under hypnosis. People who have taken LSD are able to perform amazing physical acts.

If these same things had been done through prayer to the Christian God, churches would repeat them ad nausium as the power of prayer.

Yes of course look at all major accomplished, the person believed strongly that they can accomplish their desire. And no because prayers in which you are asking God for something without performing actions to reach this goal are useless.

Yes. Comes down to "God helps those who help themselves".
As to why some are and some aren't? Great mystery of God. Tammy Wynette had a song out once, I believe the title was "Wonders to Perform" and in it it said something along the lines of wondering why a young man died; "did You look into the future" (God) and see something else You didn't want this child to face? Who knows? Only God. I've just learned that life happens and will happen the way it is until we have our new world(either Heaven or after the 'end' of the world) with only God's people; (God's promise).

Yes. If you visualize yourself doing it you think through the process of the physical steps to achieve whatever it is you want to achieve. But then I read the rest of your question and I got completely lost. What does prayer have to do with this reality?

That's what a lot of people say, but my experience is that I don't even have to believe I can do it. Many times I've surprised myself by doing something I assumed was beyond my ability. And many times I've disappointed myself by failing at something I was confident I could do.

I think the only way not believing can cause you to fail is if you fail to even try.

Faith in God answering prayer has a lot to do with it. Though God works in His own time. I usually get a strong feeling when I know that it will be answered, though it has taken time but I have seen them answered all the same. When it involves other people there is still the matter of free will involved.

Henry Ford said
If you believe you can or can't do a thing you are right."
It is a matter not of mumbling prayers or spells but looking within and seeing the power within yourself.

some is a keyword.

believing I can fly doesn't make it happen or true,
unless I get into an airplane.

If I pray... lord, let thy will be done, then yes, no matter what happens my prayer has been asnwered.
