I am having a destination wedding. My parents are throwing a huge reception at home (500+ people). Can I wear my wedding dress again? My mom thinks I shouldn't. My friends who are married said they wished they could have worn the dress again and to go for it. Others said that they've seen other women wear their dresses at this kind of reception. Thoughts?

I think you totally can! I wouldn't wear the veil though. It's your wedding, do what makes YOU happy!

2nd Dress For Wedding Reception

I have seen it done both ways. Like you, when I was married I had a second reception also since so many of the groom's family and friends could not attend our wedding, which was 500 miles away. I did not wear my gown, but have always regretted it. I wore another long dress (more casual). My niece recently had a second reception and DID wear her dress again. It's totally up to you. If you do, of course, don't wear the veil or tiara. For the groom, he can be in black slacks and a white shirt and tie. Good luck - it sounds fun!

Honey, It's still part of your Special Day !!!! Wear your Beautiful Wedding Dress, and Enjoy Yourself !
Everyone will want to see You in your Lovely wedding dress!!!
Also, as Hard as it is, which I still have a problem with, too, and I'm 53.
You Need to stand up to your Mother, I Know it will be Hard to do, but you are starting out now as a married woman and your own house and all.
You can do it in a Kind & Loving manner, but firmly, so that she will understand that you have made up your own mind on this matter.
It will help you in the future.
Good Luck!, Best Wishes on your Wedding !, And Enjoy your Reception !!

If you are having a black tie wedding, then absolutely wear the wedding dress again! I've been to completely informal receptions that happened well after the actual wedding, and all the brides wore their dress, adn the grooms wore a tux.
I would love another opportunity to wear mine again!
You can always wear it for the first half the party, and then change into another dress later, if that will help satisfy your mom!

This is just my personal opinion but I think if you are having this hugh black tie reception go for it wear your dress but since none of the guest were at the actually wedding why not have a priest attend and do your vowels over in front of the guest or stand up together in front of everyone and do a special candle ceremony. Congratulations on everything and I hope you have a long and healthy life with your future husband.

Yeah, u can wear your dress. It' your special dress and after your wedding u won't wear it again. Just take into the consideration of what your reception is and the size and weight of your dress. Is it going to be to heavy for u to move freely in? Will u be able to dance in it? U can always arrive to the reception in ur dress and change to something more comfortable like another wedding dress which can be whatever u like. Congrats!! I wish u the best!!

I would, personally I'm having just a reception and I have a wedding dress for that. What's the obsession with wearing a different outfit at the wedding reception?

I say go for it! You can get more use out of a dress most people only wear once in their life. You bought the dress for the wedding, the reception is a part of the wedding so, go for it if it makes you happy! Congrats and Good Luck!

This is your reception. heck yes wear the dress! Wedding dresses are expensive and should be worn!

Tell your friends who wish they could wear their wedding dresses again to look for a photographer in the area he does "trash the dress" session. It is like an extreme bridal portrait. The dress doesn't get ruined, just dirty since you will most likely not wear it again.

Congrats!

I think as the bride you should do whatever YOU desire to do regarding wearing your wedding gown again. You don't get to wear it for very long anyway, and it costs a lot of money, so why not get as much use out of it as you can? Plus, if I were one of your guests at the reception, I'd love to see you in the gown because your guests didn't see it before. I know brides who have worn their wedding gowns at their home reception after the wedding date has passed. Why not feel special and beautiful in your gown for one more day? You could always tell your mom that your husband wants you to wear your gown again & he is the one you want to please. Good luck and congrats!
