You MUST pick one "denier" and one "believer."

And if you can't say nice things, don't say anything at all. :)

Global Warming:

Believer: Trevor is top, without a doubt, but Dana is excellent too. They are both really knowledgeable, experts in their field.
There are others who are knowledgeable but what sets these two apart is not only the extent and depth of knowledge but that they are great communicators.

Both will spend time making sure that they have answered your questions fully. That you understand the concepts. They both use simple language and try to give a balanced argument. Both are really patient, will repeat themselves and answer the same questions over and over. I find that really difficult to do without getting frustrated.

Skeptic I would say 3DM is the smartest and most helpful. Some of his answers are excellent. Other people are saying Jello. I can understand why, however, I think it would take a massive leap for him to use his obvious intelligence productively to put forward well researched answers.

He seems to just enjoy the battle more than giving the information. Something I am afraid I have been guilty of too, a learning need. I am trying hard not to be combative. Maybe Jello just needs a little help too?

Reading the above answers I'm all embarassed now. Glad that some people think I'm contributing something by being on here.

I've just gone and worked through all the other questions and come across this and it's the hardest one to answer. I wish you hadn't narrowed it down to "regulars" otherwise I'd have said 1ofselby as the most helpful believer (retired meteorologist but not contributed for some time). Robert A is very well informed, educated and helpful but I'm not sure you'd class him as a regular either.

The 'denier' part is easy - it has to be Mr Jello by default, he's the only person I consider to be a denier, the others I'd term skeptics. For skeptics I'd probably say 3DM as many of his answers are well researched and he obviously puts time and effort into his answers.

Back to the beleivers. Well... erm... here's some of them (alphatetically) Belladonna Deadlynightshade, Bob, Byderule, Dana, Engineer, Enraged Parot, JJ, Kieth P, Mad Noelle, Mike, Yourself. I kow it's breaking your rules but I really can't select just one, sorry.

Trevor wins, hands down. As was said about the first America's Cup - there is no second place.

The best "denier" is Mr Jello. He's very helpful, as far as I'm concerned.

The best "skeptic" is Marc G. Really thought provoking questions.

On his best days 3DM is as good, but 3DM has some bad days. GABY and DeusExMachina/A Near Life Experience also deserve mention.

Smartest and most helpful, eh? Does it have to be a denier, or can it be a skeptic?

"Believer": Trevor for sure - he knows his stuff.

"Skeptic": DeusExMachina/A Near Life Experience, because he seems to be the most open-minded.

"Denier": Well, I don't have anything nice to say about deniers, so I won't say anything at all :-) Let's just say I'm shocked that anyone mentioned Jello as smartest and most helpful, let alone the first 3 answerers.

Of the theory proponents, Trevor is hands down the most helpful. There's no better way to learn climate science than from a climate scientist. Especially one who writes as clearly and intelligently as Trevor does.

Of the skeptics, 3DM gets my vote on the grounds that he was kind enough to point out several glaring factual errors I made in some of my answers.

Since there is good "meta-discussion" going on here, I will jump in and ask: Is anybody else upset at the apparent mistreatment Y!A has given byderule? Byderule posted a defense of Dana1981, who got reinstated, then Y!A apparently stripped Byderule of all his points. I can't believe how autocratic and hypocritical the Y!A "referees" seem to be. If they're reading this, I'm sure I'll be gone next.

I don't respond much to the Global Warming questions. There is so much repetition of questions and opinions that it is tiresome. Too much talk (yelling) not enough science.

No one's mentioned patzky99 yet, whose responses are always helpful to me. Not terribly regular in this section, but obviously pops in on occasion.

Way too many deniers to sort through. Quite a cast of characters, these Yahoos, eh?
