Online, hopstop is great. If you're not near a computer, call the TA and speak to a live person - 718] 330-1234. They are there from about 6:30 am to 10:pm - it's an excellent service.

Use MTA.info. I've had some problems with Hopstop with them in getting the local and express trains correct.
The MTA site tells you times, and can allow for the amount of walking youd have to do.

www.hopstop.com is better than the mta website. but if you're ever lost in the subway, just ask ANYONE. If that person doesn't speak english, ask louder and someone else will butt in, don't worry =)
