It's 4 years for an SP30 (the points are invalid after 3 years but have to stay on your licence for 4)

They will be on your licence and 'active' for 3 years.
'Active' means they count towards the totting-up procedure. Get 12 points and you will lose your licence.

They will remain on your licence, but 'inactive' for a further 12 months. They do not count towards the totting-up procedure during this time.
At the end of the 4 year period, you can pay to have the points removed. This currently costs around £20.

You will be required to declare these points to your insurance company for 5 years after the date of conviction.

For three years after which time you can send it back to be removed. Most insurers seem to ask for convictions over a longer period.
