I work in a bakery at shoprite and you can't sit down at all. the job is so demanding and it seems like I'm doing all the work. I only get like 1 break in a 9 hour day and I have to stand and lift heavy stuff for 8 - 8 1/2 hours on average a day. the job is just too stresfull and my other part time co-worker calls out sick once a week usually or shows up late and places all his hours/responsibilities on me.

and the store manager says I should be on medication to calm me down...she is an idiot but I don't take offense to that, I try to find humor in all of things.

I think it is illegal not to give you 2 breaks and a lunch period.

You can find a much better job if you allpy at a store that has a Union.

5 days a week is more than enough for this type of job.

It all depends on what other demands you have on your life and priorities. Family is very important, and if working so long is interfering with your family, then you have to reconsider how many hours you are working.

I have little family life, so my 3 jobs don't interfere with that!

I am also on my feet with my jobs, and I'm really dead by the end of the day. I get no breaks, except those when I go from job to job.

Don't add to your workload by covering for others, however, that's never a good idea. Let them sink or float of their own accord. I know it's hard to do without that worker's WORK that they are SUPPOSED to be doing, but management will soon find out they need to get someone else to DO that work and get rid of the lazybones.

"Too much" work is a relative matter. Some people eat/sleep/crap work 24/7, now THAT's too much. If you feel like it's getting to be too much, then likely it is. Try cutting down some, if your budget can take it, of course.

Good luck, and here's a foot massage for you!

Yeah that is deff. too much work, you should get a least 2 days off a week and more then 1 break and you should not have to take your co workers responsibilities on top of yours when they are late or call in sick!! I would quit and find a job that isn't so demanding!!

I guess it depends on the state. You should be getting time and a half for anything over 40 hours a week. And one half hour break for every five hours. 50 hours are way too much and it’s stressing you out, so you should just ask to be scheduled no more then 4 days a week if that works for you. If they don’t do it then start looking for another job. As tempting as it is to quit when you get mad, you need another job to go to. Good Luck
Hey, if I was working that schedule it would take more then medication to keep me sane!

I remember when I was over-worked. My boss at my part-time job at a doctors office wouldn't let me go to full-time (even though it would've only been an extra hour a day) and I was running low on money. I got a weekend job at a restaurant as a server and I was literally working more on the weekends than I was on the weekdays because the managers had me working doubles every Saturday and Sunday even though I'd told them about my other responsibilities. Not to mention the fact that I was going to school at night Monday-Thursday. There were many a times when I would go in to the retaurant at 10am, not leave until 1am, and have to be back at the restaurant at 11am. The final straw came one night when I was at my boyfriend's apartment (this was when we'd first started dating and I hadn't moved in yet). He was working the night shift and had to leave at 10:30. I'd fallen asleep and he couldn't wake me up. I'd lost nearly 20 pounds in 2 months and my complexion had become gray and pale. When I realized how tired I'd become, I quit working at the restaurant and took a couple of semesters off at school. I now have a full-time job, in school again, and back to a normal weight. And boy do I feel better!

I suggest finding another job before this happens to you. Exhaustion is not fun.

If you think it is too much then I think you know your answer. But I'm not sure what you might want to consider doing besides the most obvious, find another job. It might be to sit down with your boss when you have slept well and can be calm/rational. I certainly can understand how you feel since I've been in a similar situation. What happened to me was that I got promoted and thus removed from the situation. :)

That would be too much for me. You definitely deserve 1-2 days off a week, and at least another 15 minute break a day.

Hello, I think you answered your own question, Depends on what state you work for you are entitled to have at least one lunch meal, and two breaks.
I would ask your boss to hire someone more dependable and fire the one that does not show up all the time.

doesn't sound to bad though i'm sure there are jobs that are less stressful. my husband works anywhere from 10 - 24hrs straight at times. lifting, carrying, up and down stairs and in the elements. now that's stress.
