I was at a party and I was asked to give an intoxicated man a ride home cause we lived fairly close to one another. I agreed but while driving him home I was cited for speed contest (streetracing) and later resolved that issue. The state then sent me a letter requesting proof of my auto insurance and that if I could not prove it my license would be suspended. I sent them my information and they told me they would need it for the car I was driving. My insurance will cover me driving another car, but that was not good enough. I told the state I was in a strangers car and they would not give me any information so that i can find the intoxicated person who owned the car. What can I do so I don't loose my license?

I WOULD GO TO THE DMV AT THE COURTHOUSE AND TELL THEM THIS STORY AS WELL AS TAKING ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK WITH YOU.

I WOULD ASSUME THAT SOMEONE THERE WOULD ASSIST YOU IN FINDING THE STRANGER THAT YOU ARE SPEAKING OF.

IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET THIS INFORMATION FOR YOU BECAUSE OF THE PRIVACY ACT, THEN THEY COULD AT LEAST GIVE YOU THE STRANGERS INSURANCE COMPANIES NAME.

They want insurance for the car you were driving. As someone else suggested, go to the persons home & get it, or write a letter stating what you wrote here, or ignore it...it's a pain in the rear of course, but you have to get it resolved.

hopefully, u didnt lie and say that it want ur car when it really is ur car...if it wasnt ur car, then go to the guys house to get the info...if he doesnt have insurance, then ull get fined for driving a car w/ no insurance, whether its ur car or not...and i've never heard of a insurance company that will cover u if ur driving someone elses car thats not on ur policy...i would double check that if i were u...if u have a record of street racing, speeding, mulitple tickets, they could take ur license away, and give u a red license, which means that ur only able to drive a car to and from work only!!! no other reasons at all...

Your insurance will NOT cover you in another car unless that particular car has no insurance. You took the drunken sot home so you must know where he lives. Go to his home and bring your letter with you. You two can drive to a Quickee-mart and photocopy his insurance information and satisfy the bozos at the DMV.

Get a letter sent from your insurance company to the State. Make sure you give them all the pertinent information as far as any Case number.
