First you have to go to an ophthalmologist and make sure that your eye is compatible for contacts. My Dr. has the contacts I use in stock so I just get them after I get my prescription from him. If there is a specific brand you want you need to make sure and let him know because on some of those contact they need to know measurements of your eye. For example, the extended wear contacts. The prescription for your glasses is not always necessarily the same for contacts, so you need to make sure and go to your ophthalmologist. I've never order contacts online, but it's a good alternative according to a friend of mine that order his online since he says it's cheaper and good quality. He orders from contactking.com or something like that.

First you need to get an eye exam for contacts. A regular eye exam just covers glasses. A prescription for contact lenses costs more than a regular eye exam. Most Vision centers give you a first free pair and you have to go back in like 2 weeks to make sure they are doing ok. After that you can order them and it can take 3-7 days to get them in. Some stores like Wal Mart can do all this for you and they also carry some of the contacts right there in the vision center. So you wouldn't have to order them.

You need to get measured for them first, either by way of doctor's visit or with a certified eye-doctor(in-store eye-care). Then they will order the contacts, which may take a week or so if they do not have your specific prescription on hand, although most eye-care places stock standard prescriptions and you can take them home day of. If the place you go to is professional they will do a fitting of the contacts before you buy them to make sure the measurements are right.

You first need an appointment with the Optometrist. He/She will give you a thorough examination and fit you for lenses. Since you have never worn them, they may give you a trial pair (Providing your prescription isnt too bad) and instruct you on their use. If you have a mild Rx., most places have them in stock. If not, they take 1-2 weeks to get them in, than they have you back for a fitting exam. After that, you are on your own. PLease remember with Contacts, you MUST take them out as directed, and wash your hands before touching your eyes. I have worn CL for 26 years and cant live without them...enjoy!!
