which is better wood to wood or mental joint , screw, or quick reliease whats your opinion

Personally, I feel that an ideal joint will have a maximum amount of wood-to-wood contact, very thin plastic or metal rings (just enough to keep the wood from mushrooming), and very little if any void spaces (this can be achieved with an interference fitted screw). Like Vegas Matt said, a high level of wood-to-wood contact will provide you with a lot of tactile feedback in your grip hand. How a cue feels is all about harmonics or sound waves. Different materials have different frequencies and sound waves will have difficulty traveling between different mediums and simply won't cross over a void space. I really don't believe that one style of joint will actually provide a "harder" hit than another. How hard you hit is a function of how fast you stroke. This is just my opinion, but I feel that I have a lot of evidence to back it up. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

I don't know that any is that much better than the other, they are just different. A wood to wood joint will typically give you a softer hit and more feel in your grip hand. A metal joint will typically be harder hitting but dull some of the feel in the butt of the cue. But these are not hard and fast rules. A custom cuemaker can build a hard hitting cue with a wood joint or a soft hitting cue with a stainless steel joint.
A far as joint screws go I don't know a whole lot, but I think it says something that very few if any custom cuemakers use quick release joints.

A 'hard hitting' cue is a description of the general feel of the cue. Although you can create a cue that generates more power than others (otherwise there'd be no such thing as a break cue) that is not what is being referred to when someone describes a cue's "hit."

I have always used wood to wood so it's what feels right in my hands. I have seen the quick release and don't think it's something I'd like. I know when I feel the secure lock down of my screw type wood to wood I play without a thought about whether or not it will loosen on me or not. I don't know I'd be so confident in a quick release and that would be an added distraction to my concentration.

I have played league pool for many years and I prefer the cue that unscrews for storage. Most professionals use this type of cue if you've ever seen them play.
