That is just a silly superstition (like walking under a ladder or a black cat crossing your path). I had a full-length mirror that I used in the room where I got dressed for my wedding. It got broken a few weeks after that when we were bringing it home from the church. I still have a great marriage to a wonderful man (over nine years later!).

Seven years is a figure based on the average mirror size, calculated in 1876, which is 600cm^2. So if we say the size of the mirror you broke is x cm^2, the formula is: 7x/600 years bad luck. For example, if the mirror you broke was 100cm^2, your bad luck would last for 700/600 years, which is 1.1666... years, which is about one year, sixty days and twenty hours.

That is just an old wives tales. If any fact was ever behind it, mirrors use to be hand made and very expensive and it could be whoever ever first said it, it would have taken seven years before they could get or afford another mirror; thus not being able to see how they looked the whole seven years too.

It's just a saying. You won't have any bad luck for breaking the mirror.

I broke one last week also. My lawyer thinks he can get me off with two years of bad luck and some community service.

I use an inspection mirror for work when using my torch and have broken several. I haven't noticed anything bad yet. Must be a myth.

It's a Chinese myth. You can interpret it as flowers bloom if something (mirror) falls to the ground - the Chinese say "luo (fall) di (to the ground) kai (bloom) hua (flowers)" to break this myth.

Well, come to think of it, I broke one about four years ago. But I don't remember anything coming of it, unless you count my house burning down... wonderful insurance!

There is no such thing. It's just a saying. There is no such thing as bad luck or good luck.
