hoosier daddy -- bingo! If we posit a truly OMNIPOTENT God, then there is nothing that God can't do, even things that are logically inconsistent and irrational. The answer to the question "is God capable of not existing?" must be yes. If the answer is no, then he is not omnipotent since there is something he cannot do.
Thus, God being omnipotent, his existence is not necessary, since he can both exist and not exist at his own pleasure.

It sounds like you are saying that the idea of God is more imporatant than the actual existance of God. Many would agree. I've had many discussion with Jews which have kind of implied that, although perhaps I am just perceiving that wrong. I can't argue against that, since I do not think there is a God yet cannot deny that the idea of God is powerful, in both a good and bad way.
Anyway, that is certainly not any proof of God's omnipotence. Only in the power of the idea that there is a God.

It's actually proof of nothing. However, it is an interesting philosophical question. To rephrase it more clearly: If God is omnipotent, and omnipotence is without limit, is this omnipotent God's existence even necessary for the effects of His existence to manifest?
Generally: Does omnipotence transcend logic or does its apparent transcendence mean that it cannot exist?
Most generally: Must all things be logical to exist or is it at all possible for something exist without being bound by logic?

Omnipotence is a quality that can only apply to an existence, though. :P

to save us from what then? clearly, you feel that there needs to be some saving of some sort. if that is the case, then clearly if we are the ones that created our own need for saving then whould it not stand to reason that we are not able to save ourselves? so, really you are arguing for God's exsistance. well said, and put, good question.

If God did not exist, for what purpose would we need to be saved?
Saved from what?
For what?

"god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.
