I have to do a project which has to be handed in, in 5 weeks. The project is to test and build a line following robot using a programmable interface chip. Any suggestions on where to find such schematic diagrams would be greatly accepted. It has to be automated so it has to run of batteries. Thanks in advance.

In UK, you can get a 'Bug' kit from Maplin Electronics (it's about £50) = 'Line Tracer' .. check out also the other 'Bug' kits

They also have all the individual parts = gears, motors, sensors, 'vero' borad etc to build your own ..
