How do i learn how to breath and use the diaphram properly?
Sometimes I find it hard to put much force into a song, is this because I am not singing correctly. My voice often feels weak and soft similar to Diana Ross’.

First, when you breath normally, you should always breath a "belly breath". Your "stomach should extend". Most people breath and their shoulders move up. This is always wrong. Why? When your stomach extends breathing correctly, it is because your lungs are expanding to their capacity and your internal organs are being "pushed" down and out because they have nowhere else to go. It just makes sense that, when we sing, we want to take in as much air as possible. It is like filling up a car full of gas before we take a trip.

After we get our breath, the tricky part is learning how to sing without all the air rushing out. Here is a simple solution. Act like you are grunting, just like the feeling when you are using the restroom. Remember that tight feeling in your lower abdominal muscles. Now, after you get your "belly" breath, create that feeling of grunting the "entire time you are singing". This will be difficult at first. But, this will do two very important things. 1)Conserve your air and 2)make the diaphragm do its job to control the airflow.

For me a singing teacher was never more than a tool to get more gigs in public but if really want to improve your technique look into a few different teachers in your area. Ive gone through 5 vocal coaches and only ever learnt anything from the 2 most recent.
Try singing like you talk, like when you yell out to your friends you are loud an strong right? so compare what you do with your muscles when you are speaking loudly to when you sing.

Im sorry if im not too helpfull. I'm not a great teacher Im very lucky to have a natural singing ability so I was never tought how to do that.
but good luck with your singing. its the best thing in the world

Take voice lessons. The school choir probably has one available for students. Ask about it.

My daughter has one of those voices, and though her pitch is perfect, and her sightreading fabulous, she just can't sing with force. But what she does sing is gorgeous.

One thing David Smith of il divo said, was that he was taught to sing for the back row in the auditorium. Maybe if you keep that in mind, you can bring up more force in your singing.

I've not been able to do that, though I have enough force, because I can't get the backup loud enough that I can sing and still hear the band behind me.

Sing on, sweetie. It is a scientific fact that singing makes you feel good. Lots of breathing (just like in meditation) and the good feeling that comes from the lyrics, and from singing with someone else. It has been proven to help depressed people lift their spirits, too.

Try singing Amazing Grace. You can't keep it quiet, and you can't keep from embellishing it with runs. It's SO FUN.

For me singing properly is not singing at all since I can't carry a tune in a portable radio. If you can sing but have problems as you described I would take voice lessons. A local college or junior college drama group can help you find qualified help to gain the control you want.

Well if you really wanna learn how to, then I suggest finding a vocals training school. They teach you how to raise your voice, breathe evenly so you can hold out long notes, and lower your voice too. Those stuff, nobody can be perfect though. Everyone can sing, you just have to learn how to train your voice correctly. Good luck!

to sing properly, a student or a hobbyist should learn proper posture and should know how to relax his/her singing organs.avoid to force your voice in order to hit the notes.start in exercising or vocalizing in simple songs like happy birthday or lullaby.
