I want to wear jewelry!!! But it breaks my skin out.. earrings make me ears itch and i can't help but scratch them..
and the buttons on my jeans break my skin out,
I can't wear necklaces (had such a bad rash that i had to get a shot at the doctor), and I cant buy cute clothes that have rhinestones or chains on them.! I seem to be able to wear jewelry on my wrist with no problem though. What can I do? Should I put tape around the post of my hoop earrings? Coat it with something, like candle wax or.. glue or something? this is sooo irritating. Even the ones that say "nickel-free" give me problems sometimes. And what causes the skin to break out?

I know someone who had such a bad skin sensitivity problem that she could not wear a gold wedding ring. She took it to a store that makes jewelry (not a seller but a maker) and they electroplated it with Rhodium [looks like white gold]. She has not had a problem since.

Give that a try.

I'm allergic to the metal on the Jean's aswell.
I've been told from doctors that it's possibly sterling silver that causes it. I cannot wear cheap jewellery or I'm in pain for days, even weeks sometimes.
The way I've solved the jeans problem is by coating the metal in clear nail polish, works a treat! Just reapply it every week or so (the nail polish tends to wear off after a while).
If you do get an infection, I use antibiotics for 2-3 days and it clears up. I had major scarring around my tummy button too, to get rid of that I used Manuka Honey Cream, disappeared in a week.
I find that it can sometimes be hormones aswell. I was able to wear cheaper jewellery for about 6 months a little while ago, then all of a sudden it came back.
Good luck!

i have the same problems...i can solve your jean problem :)

turn your jeans inside out and paint all of the metal you see with clear nail polish..i do this like once a month..works great

you can do the same with necklaces but only do it if it has a small chain/clasp on the back..not on the whole necklace..works great for beaded necklaces

buy the more expensive jewlery for sensitve skin..not the walmart 2 dollar stuff...i dont break out from claires sensitive

you can try simplywhispers.com for earrings...some are really ugly but some a really cute

your simply allergic to the metal used in these products and that is what is causing your breakout..if you can can stick to silver or gold..but they are expensive and dont come in all the cute styles

Is it just a certain type of metal? Does gold make you break out? Silver? You really didn't go in to detail about what type of jewelry gives you problems. The only thing I am getting from your post it seems like cheap jewelry's what is causing your problems.

I have the same problem...I'm allergic to evey metal that is not platinum or 24 kt. gold...I have expensive skin, you might too. I used to wrap my legs around the legs on my desk in 1st and 2nd grade only to have my legs break out in a rash. Try expensive metals. If that doesn't work, all I can tell you is use clear fingernail polish on what will be touching your skin.

Get better quality jewelry. Stainless steel posts in the earrings usually solve this problem.

You have a metal allergy.
