Almost all vegetables taste better steamed than boiled. You can also steam shellfish.

Here's two really good steamed recipes I do:
1. Line your steamer basket with romaine lettuce. Top it with a layer of either cod, halibut, shrimp, or scallops. Place another layer of romaine lettuce over that to cover. I generally do the lettuce, then the cod then the lettuce. Steam it 10 minutes, then add a layer of scallops and a layer of the lettuce and steam it another 10 minutes. Then add a layer of the shrimp and another layer of the lettuce and steam it 10-20 minutes or until the shrimp is pink. Eat everything. The lettuce will taste like a mild spinach. I use the leftovers in salads, soups, and in Seafood alfredo.
For dessert (I received this recipe from my Indonesian-Dutch neighbor in 1966 and have been using it ever since)
STEAM CAKE
1 glass (water glass size) flour
1 glass white granulated sugar
6 eggs
cheesecloth
Beat the 6 eggs until light. Add the sugar, a tablespoon at a time, while beating until all incorporated and the eggs are very light yellow and high. Turn your hand mixer to low (or do it by hand) and gently fold in the flour until fully incorporated. Line the steamer with the cheesecloth, with the edges hanging outside the steamer. Scoop the batter into the steamer and fold the cheesecloth over the top. Put the lid on and steam for 1 hour, making sure you don't run out of water. It will create a sweet light cake that looks a little like a sponge but is very very good and doesn't need frosting.

You can cook anything you like, I bet you that pasta comes out not to shabby even. Meats, Vegetables, throw it all in. There was a point I only had a microwave & toaster oven, Damn don't I wish I would of had on of the steamer contraptions you've got. My main course wouldn't of been Barley & Hops.

You can steam most anything. Exceptions are
baked goods. Chicken is good, steam doesn't wash off the goodies that the meat was
marinated in.
Veggies seem to stay fresh looking.
