I mean, in the Navy itself, not at a College which has no connection to the Navy.

And if so, does that take place on land or in the sea (or in other words, do you remain on land the whole time while taking your degree)?

If not, how regularly are you allowed to go home?

Oh... and just out of curiosity, do they chop off your hair when you are admitted to take a degree in the Navy, or only once you start to perform certain functions within that institution (and are paid)?

I hope I have made myself understood.
My native language is not English.

For the US Navy:

well, for one, you must be a legal permanent resident to enlist. All enlistees are required to have their hair at a certain length. they WILL hack it off in an unflattering manner when you show up to Boot Camp. You earn pay from the first day you show up to Boot Camp In Great lakes.

Getting a college degree is possible while on Active duty, but it is difficult. You would not be permitted to do so while in Boot Camp or A school, nor can you begin the process until you have been qualified in your job once you hit the Fleet.

Your schooling alone can earn you college credits, but he Navy itself does NOT bestow any degrees. There is one institution, the Naval Postgraduate School, which confers Graduate degrees on Officers from all five US Branches and 30 some odd other Nation';s military members.

Any higher education must be granted through an accredited US institution.

It you're going in as an enlisted sailor you can take some of your free time and get a degree. The key there being "in your free time". The Navy doesn't cut you any slack on your job while you're going to school this way.

One option is to go to a regular school while you're on shore duty. If you have something with regular hours you can attend a local school nights and weekends to get your degree.

The other option is to find a school that will work with the military. There are a lot of colleges that will let you do your course work either independent study or online. The Navy has advisers that can help you find the college that will work best for you. They also have places to monitor any tests you need to take.

It's not any easy way to go to school because there really isn't a whole lot of free time, especially if you have a wife and kids. But it can be done.

All of the military services including the Navy have educational programs that help service members to earn college credit toward certificate or degree programs. These programs are engineered to work with deployments and permit to structure your course load as you like. In some cases, rarely you might be assigned temporary duty status to attend a school especially if is serves the needs of your branch, however the vast majority of these programs are delivered to you wherever your duty station is located.

Every male going into entry level training in the military gets an extremely short haircut as a matter of enforcing personal hygiene standards. Following the first two months the haircut requirement become less strict however you will be required to keep it relatively short and neat in appearance. Only Army Soldiers and the Marines voluntarily wear crewcuts and high-and-tight haircuts in an effort to keep clean and cool in hot environments.
