Just a silly answer to your silly question...
Because performance-enhancing drugs are ILLEGAL and prayer is not (at least, not yet).
And your comment, "little things that prove that prayers never work" is obviously misinformed. I've been taught all prayers are answered, it's just that most of the time, the answer is "no".

Praying to win is within the rules. Before each game Jesus counts the number of athletes praying to him from each side. The side with more prayers usually wins. This is a proven fact.

Im curious...
How does this have anything remotely to do with your comment about..." these are little things that prove that prayers never work or atleast people barely have any confidence in them working at the right time..."???
lol
Anyway, I bet that really chaps the butt of atheists and their religion, though, when they see almost every single professional athlete make a spectacular play and then give praise to God.
I bet atheists kind of feel "left out" of something, huh?
But, Im sure the atheists will just say that everyone else that believes in God and shows respect to Him is just an idiot that doesnt know what he/she is doing, right?
And they say that people that believe in God are brainless idiots? lol
EDIT: LOL You just attacked all "believers of a higher power" and now you have the guts to call me out for attacking all athiests? LOL
And Uh...Im proving WHAT point? I see nothing but another atheist trying to spread their religion by attacking those that think different than they do.
I wasnt attacking anyone. I made a comment about how atheists will use anything to try and...hell, I dont know... "convert" others into thinking like they do. Sounds like a religion to me.
You still havent answered my question about how your question and referencing an athlete praising God has ANYTHING to do with how that proves prayer never works or that people barely have any confidence in them working at the right time.
By the way...the majority of the planet believes in an higher power, called by many names. So...as you being a non-believer and in a minority...how do you justify that "people barely have any confidence" in prayers working?
I find it hilarious that someone who is part of a religion that only a few percentage of the people on this planet follow (atheism), would have the audacity to try and say that their religion is right and the massive amount of others are wrong.
But hey, thats just my two coppers...

You can pray all you want, but it won't do a darn bit of good if you can't play the game. God, if it exists, doesn't care about your team.
The performance enhancing drugs on the other hand...well, just look at Barry Bonds.

Taking performance enhancing drugs can make a difference. Talking to fictional characters can't.

Christian athletes normally pray that they be allowed/helped to do their best, no matter the outcome of the game.

Sure prayer works. But God will also allow the better athlete to win.

The short answer is: because prayer doesn't actually DO anything.
