Windows to the soul.

Orbs.

You know, there really aren't too many good synonyms for eyes, especially considering how common and simple the word is.

I can't think of any good ones, because "window to the soul" and "baby blues" are cliched and "orbs" sounds like a trashy romance novel. "peepers" is only used in the context of "peeping tom" and so, at least for me, has creepy connotations.

Instead of finding another word for it, try describing them in your own words. Like, instead of using the word eye have a metaphor in it's place. i.e. "She looked deeply into his stunning pools of grey between the beating of her long eyelashes"

Well, that particular one also sounds romance-novel-y.

But the whole point of creative writing is to have the language work with you, not against you. So my advice is to make something up. Have fun!

'een' is an archaic english plural for eyes. 'optics' was a fairly commom Victorian slang term. 'limpid pools'... i cant remember where this is from. id have to agree with the person who suggests you come up with your own descriptive metaphor(s). good luck with that.

I dont know what kind of story it is but maybe you could do parts of the eye like
iris (the coloured part of the eye)
or lens
or retina (nerve fibres from eye)

or something like sparkling lumps of coal dark as a bottomless well... or something i dunno.
