Hi There
My husband and I installed our kitchen ourselves (it's from ikea and it's great :)
We painted the walls first. This avoids having to mask off your brand new cupboards and avoid getting paint on them and having to work in awkward spaces!
We then installed the kitchen and worktops then tiled.
Everything went to plan - no mess.
That would be my advise (plus most DIY books will advise the same) Hope this helps

I would think that at least for painting that you do it before. I know I personally would not want to risk getting paint on the new cabinets. I'm not sure if you are planning on putting tile in your whole kitchen, depends on where it is, you may want to lay the tile first, because you may not be able to put the cabinets over the tile.
Good luck!

Tile the kitchen areas AFTER putting the wall cabinets up but BEFORE you put on any lighting pelmet, etc. If you want to or have to put the lighting pelmet up before you tile, cut them 10mm. short of the wall on the side returns, this allows for a 7mm tile and 3mm of adhesive behind it. I hope this helps. P.S. Use uncooked spaghetti for tile spacers, it makes for small joints in between the tiles and consequently make the surface easier to keep clean. Before you grout the tiling, just run over the pieces sticking out with a filler knife or similar and they fall off.

Ive been a kitchen installer for 30 years ,,,,,,ok you lay out on the wall all cabinets , mark on the walls, starting in the corner. what the cabinet is and its size. mark where it starts and ends from the print . mark all filler strips and there sizes,, again on the wall. Make a plumb line where your stove will be, based on your upper cabinet . install all your upper cabinets plumb level and even across the top . then install your lower cabinets .the bottom of your upper cabinets should be 54 inches from the finished floor line or tops should align at 84 inches above the floor for 30 inch uppers and 90 inches for 36 inch cabs . cabinet installation is more than most people can do even seasoned carpenters will give this job to a " cabinet man " we install for 50 bucks per cabinet and 125 for utilty cabinets . moldings are 75 a stick . if your in the state of mass. let me know if you need help with this project .

Put up cabinets first and then paint and tile around, the other way around might mean you spoil paint or break the tiles.

I would do it after, less chance of damaging the tiles whilst installing the units.
