we call christians who branched out directly from the catholic church as protestants and we hold them dear to our hearts. we refer christians who do not branch out from the catholic chruch as ecclesial communities, whom also play an important role in salvation.
we give all of you good names, we refer all of you as in oneness with us in spreading the Word of God and this is how you guys treat us back.

hmm, okay. it took just an amazing 10 minutes to get 14 replies for this question, while my other questions in the food, business, diet and biology sections can only manage a meagre 1 reply in the last 15 minutes.
i also found out that when i phrase my question so as to make it sound biased, i will get less smart alecs answering my questions, thus i get many good, honest replies.
my hidden question is actually:
"what on earth are you guys doing at this time of day other than participating in Yahoo! Answers?" (I'm in Malaysia, it's now 8.50pm local time, just wanted to know..)

Just wish people STOP generalising here.
I'm a Non-Xian & I accept that Catholism is the oldest European expression of Xity. So naturally I don't think they'll go to hell.
Just wish bigots who suggest this would. OR just stop spreading hate speach.

Simon T. The Pope never said that. Nor did he say all non-Catholics will go to hell as many people say. Read the Popes quote again.
The Pope said was that the full understanding of Jesus Christ and the road to salvation is to be found within Catholicism. Anyone who is baptized is still a Christian and non-Christians are also loved by God. What did people expect the Pope to say? "Well, Catholicism is quite fun but then so is Islam. I also hear that Hindus have great parties and as for Zoroastrianism, it's really cool, man."
Give us a break. He's a Catholic. He's the Catholic! Nobody is obliged to be Catholic, but if they say they are they should live as though they are. Which means they have to observe Catholic teaching. Requiring that they know what Catholic teaching is in the first place.

Ah the Lord must truly be shaking his head as he sees his children bickering about who will be in His kingdom. I was raised Catholic and as a child was so convinced that Catholics were the only chosen ones, I tried to convince my 8yr. old friend to secretly baptize her grandmother in the guise of helping her wash her hair!!! After going through a divorce, I found a wonderful Christian church when I truly felt at home. Certainly not in my home church do we say this, but I have heard Christians saythat Catholics haven't completely accepted Jesus, with all the distractions with the myriad of saints, Mary etc. When as a Catholic married a Protestant I had to sign papers saying we'd raise our kids Catholic. I thought "how rude and arrogant of the Church" the priest was nice and I said "so what if I don't sign this???" He said quietly, "well the bishop may not allow me to marry you". Mind you my husband to be looked on humoursly at the discussion. For the sake of peace I acquiesced and signed the document. Arrrrgggh. Now my daughter made her first communion(my mom's hope) and we go to a Christian church. Let's just all accept each other as Catholics are Christians.

Why does the pope claim that that the protestant are not really churches?
It all boils down to:
"My belief is the true religion, your belief is a deluded cult."
In as many words.
The concept that anyone is going to go to hell because of an disagreement over the interpretation of a bunch of stories ranging from 3000 to 1800 years old, based on oral tradition, that have been selected by men from a bigger range of stories, mistranslated, edited and revised several times - is totally ridiculous.
How do you worship an omnipotent god that can not even keep his holy book accurate and consistent?
Edit:
Tigerlily. You are wrong. You guys do not worship the same god(s). You just happen to give your god(s) the same name.
Christians have an a la carte version of God. They pick the bits they like and ignore the bits they don't. If you all worshiped the same god(s) then there would be one Christian Church, instead of hundreds of sects.

In Matthew 8:22,23 Jesus pretty much told everyone that the final decision was not His but His Father God's.
I ask you then, why is it your church seems to think they have the right that even Jesus claimed He Himself did not have?
God calls whom He Wills...through Jesus ANY of the Gentiles whom is willing to lay down their life for Him, be baptised in water and of the Holy Spirit and do the Will of the Lord will have everlasting life. Note He did not, nor did anyone else in the Bible, claim that Catholics were above all Gentiles.
I have no denomination that I claim. I am a child of God, a bride of Christ, and seek God's Will, not the Catholic church or any other.
Consider thy ways and what you speak, Alex...
May you find Truth :)

Greg M I am more of a Christian than you are, at least I don't run other Religions down like you do especially with the Catholic Church, I have been brought up better than that, to respect other Religions

i used to be catholic....salvation was bascially guaranteed at baptism...only way then to hell was to commit murder...then all you had to do is go to confession and then you were ok....
salvation is really based on a personal relationship with Jesus...he has to change your life...and your heart.....it is not based on the fact that your parents got you baptised as a baby....and you go to confession occasionally.
salvation has no denomination.....catholics and protestants are all expected by God to comply with the teachings of Jesus...and accept savation based on true repentance and a holy life.....
as for protestants...some repent once in life and never again..so they have no room to criticize others

I believe that you don't go to Heaven by deed but through a close personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. I can't say that you don't have that. Salvation is personal, only you know where you stand in your walk with the Lord.
Anyway, great question.

Not... completely.
They used to hang the protestants in the beginning days. The only thing a heart played a part was when it was torn out during torture: CONFESS !! CONFESS !!
So well... good treatment of Protestants by Catholics... I'd have to rethink that.

Meh, some people from the catholic faith treat us like dogs as well but that doesn't give us the right to treat you bad.
This is just my opinion:
I don't believe that catholic church is the true church according to the bible but i do believe that it is "Mystery Babylon the Great"
