Around here, most women and men in there 40's join a gym. Working out helps with confidence, looking good, being active, all the things everyone is attracted to.
Just make sure to smile and be chatty if some one does talk to you. Some woman at the gym are only there to work out and don't like to socialize but its easy to pick them out, they wear head phone and don't make eye contact with any one.lol So dont act like them or people will leave you alone.
Good luck, and this day in age remember younger men like older women, so don't sell your self short.

I'm a bloke looking for a woman (in her forties) but know exactly what you mean from the other side of the fence.
You think being older (45 now) I'd be wiser in the ways of meeting new women, but it seems to work the opposite. I'm sure i'm just more cynical and shyer now when it comes to striking up a conversation with a woman in my age range, and when I do, they seem to be in the same stage of cynicism.
The only joy I have had is with web-sites, but not many women seem to tell the truth (or post a picture of when they were 19!). I joined a web site to cut through the dissapointment, not swop a bar bill for a monthly fee!!
But thanks to the guy about giving you the Gym option! I already keep quite fit, and my ex (when I went to the gym with her) was always good at being chatty with a few of the guys (especially the well muscled ones. guess I shoulda seen that one coming!)

I'd recommend you get involved in hobbies & activities that get you out and among other people...such as sports, fly fishing (lots of men there), bowling, snorkling, cycling, etc. Just go to your local sports store and see what classes they might have and pick up any magazines you see. Pick some fun classes, dancing, boating, etc. That way when you can have fun while meeting lots of people and making friends at the same time who enjoy the same activities. Plus you'll feel a lot more comfortable than hitting the clubs(you know what everybody there is looking for), Another thing you can do is volunteer a couple hours at a hospital or library. The key is to get out there, be seen, and enjoy what you're doing at the same time. Have fun!

.Its a hard one to answer, but a women in her 40's in my opinion is in her prime, and should have no problems at in meeting a gentleman. My previous and current partners are mature women, 1 in their late 40s and 1 in her very early 50's. If you want to be adored and respected I would recommend meeting a younger man. (I'm 35)
