My wife was due with our first child and then our second in late Decembers - two year apart.
But when it looked like she was going to be late, I told the doctor to induce labor on Dec. 31, and have the child born on that day, so I could get a full income tax exemption that year for each child. (In one case we had to kind of fudge the time by saying the child was born at !1:57 p.m.).
These exemptions got us about a $5,000 deduction which we wouldn't have had.
Now are kids are asking how come they have the same birthday.
Was I wrong?

TONY -- lmfao -- IRS "inspectorr" is gonna go through all of the hospital records throughout the country to determine which babies' labor was induced? Even so, are you a focking crackhead to think it violates the Internal Revenue Code?

SHAME??? Are you kidding? I think it's cool that you were able to pull that off. As for the kids asking why they have the same birthdays, I would tell them the truth. It's a neat story they will enjoy telling their friends well into their adulthoods. I mean, it's not like you put your kids in any danger by having them delivered prematurely or anything. Not only were they full-term, they were late! Another few days and the doctor would have probably been inducing anyway for medical reasons.
By the way, I'm pregnant right now with #3, he's due on January 2nd. I've already decided that I will do everything in my power to get this kid out before 2008 is here, for the same reason you did.

It not that bad I mean if she was early well then yer that would be a bit crazy. But she was late and as long as there was no health issue with it and baby is all fine. I would keep it to yourselves and just say it was a coincidence.
Its only bad of you if you were putting the money above the health of your wife and baby, I mean its not really the thing to be thinking of when your having a child. Money holds no candle to life.

Well I can see how that could get tricky. Do not tell your children about the money as they will remember it later and hate you for it. Just tell them that they are extra special kids and get to share a birthday.
And from now on, try to plan having kids ealier in the year (no sex in april and early may!) as its not worth the medical complications that can be associated with inductions. Your wifes and childrens lives are worth more than $5000.
( i can't believe your wife agreed to it but each to their own right.....?)

You are not a total JackAss for asking for the tax deduction. Woweee.. you got it for the first year. No shame it that.
As far as your kids asking about their same birthdates.. You started having 'fun' just after April 15th tax dates and they 'just happened'

As long as your wife and/or child was in no danger by enducing labor, then you really have nothing to feel guilty about. It does make you sound sort of cheap though! xD

Tell them that it's was not planned but nature. You don't have to tell them about that $5,000 saving matter as that could embarrass both you wife and you.
