I know Americans cannot purchase property in Mexico.Can you become a citizen of Mexico? Would this change or do you have to be born there?

Yes,apply for a visa for 6 months, during that time apply for an fm3, that's good for three years, then apply for an fm2, good for 2 years, next apply for citizenship.
Anyone can buy property here in Mexico, there are some areas you cannot buy, Indigenous land, and some other restrictions but not much different then the USA
They have changed many laws in the last 7 years regarding land ownership and concessions, the party that held sway for 70 years when voted out when Vincenta Fox became Pres..

Yes ... but Mexico does not recognize multiple citizenships. You are either a Mexican citizen ... or you're not.

Obtaining a Mexican citizenship would mean losing your American one.

Anyone (of any nationality) can purchase Mexican property, as long as the property is not set aside for specific purpose (indigenous land, nature preserve, park, etc).

WHY WOULD AN AMERICAN BECOME A CITIZEN OF MEXICO?

10. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish language only

Yeah, but if you ever protest anything there government does you will be thrown in prison. There's a whole list of other ridiculously restricitive immigration rules in Mexico.

Yes, but ironically, you have to go thru the proper channels and do it legally.

Hmmm, it seems their government believes more in the sovereignty of a nation than OUR government does.

Our motto seems to be "come on in, we don't care".
