Dude, even if you disregarded the extraordinary claims in the Bible and just followed the book of Proverbs you would find balance and meaning in life.

I can sympathize with your point of view. I have had questions and doubts about some of the very same things that you are probably bothered by.

My religion is Christianity. There are things about the first few chapters of Gensis that I cannot explain (that does not mean that someone else cannot explain it). But outside of that, Christianity has a lot of weight as very believable. Jesus was a true historical figure, he fulfilled many old testament prophecies, a lot of archeology supports the Bible, and I know of many christians who have experienced great answers to prayer (sometimes after a time of great perseverance).

I don't have everything figured out but if you study and seek you may find that faith is not as far from you as you currently think.

Your question does not make sense. But at least you concede that religion can give meaning to life which is true.

So I have to answer your question with a question. What is it in religion that you find hard to believe? Belief comes after experiencing something which brings you to the truth of something. Therefore, to make you believe what Jesus said, why not live his commandment of love?

Why does Religion have to do anything? Why can't people find the meaning of life on their own? Because people are complete boobs. Always have to blame someone or something else for their shortcomings/failures.

Because the meaning in life is not related with religion but with self-awareness. Religion imposes restrictions that are designed to keep people in the state of ignorance, blind to all that there is to be found outside its boundaries. Religion preaches and teaches about manmade gods, figments of twisted minds intended to deprive people of their freedom to experience their divine origin and state of being-ness.
Religion is the source of all evil that plague mankind for centuries.

You don't need religion to find meaning in life.

Because when religion is written, it is hard to change it and when new religion emerges when human development has come so far, it is very unlikely to survive just because it hasn't been around long enough.

Don't base any belief you may have of how the universe came to be, on the bible or other religious books. Use reasoning, reasoning won't prove there's a god and reasoning won't disprove the possibility of a god. Thererfore, you have to use what you feel is the most likely scenerio as your baseof belief..what is the most likely scenerio? We will most likely never know

There is really only one place to start. Were you created or not?

If you were not created, then forget about meaning because there is no meaning to be found.

If you were created, then there is a Creator and He must have put the need for meaning into your human nature to point you to seek Him. So seeking God is your purpose. Start there at deciding to seek God.

Actually, it can be... provided you stay away from organized or institutionalized religion altogether.

But if you must, then go find a soul mate or two to confer with.

Peace be with you.
