Let's make a deal: You promise me that nobody ever gets hurt by your religion again, and I'll never discuss it again.
In the meantime, more americans are killed every year by christian opposition to medical progress than by terrorists.
Read Letter to a Christian Nation if you want to understand how harmful your religion is.

In America, Christianity is the Majority. If another religion was the Majority, it would be attacked more often. Another reason is, you don't see these other religions trying to put laws into place that only cater to their religion. You also don't see other religions blowing up clinics with doctors and people inside while screaming "thou shalt not kill". There aren't a bunch of cults in other religions where the head guy is marrying all the women, taking complete control over families and brainwashing children into believing that pedophilia is all right.
If it were Paganism that was doing this, I guarantee you that they would be attacking Pagans in the same manner. But as it is, Christianity is the one that has all of this going on in it at such a level that it can't be ignored. And what truly drives people crazy is when other Christians simply just pass it off, saying "Well, they're not True Christians" and don't do anything to try to stop those that are giving the Christian name a bad reputation.

Hey; I'm not a bigot; I think all theists are cowards but most especially Xians and Muslims because of the power they wield on the planet with ‘gay’ abandon.
Why cowards?
1. Can't get through life without an invisible friend.
2. Can't make a decision without passing it by their 'god' first - I'm still a bit mystified how they do this sorta thing with the involvement of non-existent beings but I've read about Multiple Personality Disorder where people really do take on different personalities - maybe it's like that.
3. Can't understand why everyone doesn't have the same need for the god delusion.
4. Their decision to ‘hand their life over to god’ is made due to their abject fear of hell rather than what they say about their love for their ‘god’.
You can not love that which you fear.
Love under threat or duress is always fear.
On the surface the delusion doesn't concern me too much but when I realise so many societal standards and decisions are filtered through and gauged against the perceived wishes of their 'god' I get a bit annoyed.
It seems that even though we atheists know ‘he’ doesn’t exist, mainly cos there’s absolutely no evidence to base an existence on, we still have no freedom FROM religion.
We can only ‘pray’ that theists wake up from their dream and join we realists and humanists and Buddhists and a few otherists.

It's a question of history and attitude. The majority of religions outside of Christianity and Islam (Which gets as much flak) are much more tolerant of differing opinions, with many going so far as to include other religious viewpoints within their own beliefs by making the assertion that there are many paths to divine revelation or enlightenment.
Christianity and Islam though are by definition bigotted as they are exclusionary, (they do not tollerate views that differ from their own) often violently so, and have as a result been responsible for more death and suffereing throughout history than probably any other man-made force.
Moving on, in the modern day, fundamentalists within both those religions threaten to destabilise the world like nothing that has come before. We walk on the knife's edge of a world war because of them.
So yeah, they take the most flak because they deserve it. I'm sorry to generalise like this, and I know there are many rational, decent followers of both religions out there, but until that attitude spreads to the majority of the faithful, their ideas need to be challenged.

I love to debate theology and share my beliefs and opinions. What bothers me is the attack part. I dont get it. I really dont. Im a decent thoughtful person in real life, even if Im disagreeing with someone. Im not disrespectful of their beliefs, nor am I rude. I dont turn into robo-***** the minute I get on Yahoo QA either. So am I to believe all these people who attack (not just atheists mind you) are sweet as pie in RL then turn into some attaking lunatics instead of holding a sense of decorum about themselves. I hate to generalize, but these types of things make me realize that perhaps there are truths about certain groups. People are missing grace. A sense of grace for others. Our culture is so different than it used to be. *sigh*

I think that American atheists spend most of their time debating with primarily Christian people, so they tend to attack Christianity more... Also, I assume that you are Christian so perhaps atheists attack it in front of you to get under your skin...
Perhaps an interesting book for you to read would be "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris... in the book, Mr Harris presents rational arguments against all organized religions, you probably would not agree with what he's written, but it would likely provide you with some insight into the mind of atheists...

Most atheists do not believe that any gods exist, which embraces all religions, doesn't it? The reason that I speak of Christianity at all is that I came of age a Christian in a part of the USA where religion was the centerpiece--religion and racism, white hate and Jesus. In short, I know the ABCs of Christianity, the KJV, and holy prejudice.

Atheism is most tolerated in America and Europe. Christianity is the primary religion in these countries. This fact makes Christianity an easy target. Other faiths ar capable of silliness; Christianity is just the most vocal in the West.

Well, the best defense is a good offense. I have never been babbled at by people trying to convert me other than christians in one form or another. If they leave me be, I will leave them be.
One other thing, muslims pagans etc dont constantly report and email harras me for being funny but christians do. They have very thin skins so... that is all.
And yes I know, some not all.

Well perhaps because most of the ATHEISTS using this site are from countries with Christian majorities. It's only natural that they'd prefer to discuss the religion that they have the most contact with and/or knowledge of.
If you went to a country with a Muslim majority, for example, you'd probably find most atheists 'attacking' Islam.

I have criticized other religions; but since I live in the United States, which is a predominately Christian nation, it is Christians which I most often find myself butting heads with - so to speak. If someone on the other side of town plays music too loud, I might observe that it is wrong, but not make too big a fuss about it because I don't normally hear the music and it is not that big a problem for me... it is his neighbor's problem. But if my neighbor plays his music too loud, I hear it, it annoys me, it is my problem and we are likely to have words.
