I think it would be very wise of you to seek professional help about what you're experiencing. A professional can help you identify the source of the problems and give you tools to help you deal with them.

I agree with the other people that you should definitely talk to a doctor to try to figure out what is going on but, in the meantime, when it is time for you to go to sleep, you should try to leave the radio, a television or some music on to see if that makes you feel more comfortable -- and distracts you from some of these other things.

The mind is very powerful. So if you are already fearful about being alone, and expect to see/hear things, there is a 100% chance that your mind will make it happen ... even when nothing is there. Also, I do not think you are crazy, but I do think you need to talk to a professional to figure out what is going on.

There are a lot of things it could be. It could be fears, memories or flashbacks of things you have been through, or as you say, a possible mental illness. It could also be your mind playing tricks on you because of stress.

Have you considered speaking to your doctor about everything? With all the facts they could probably suggest something, and maybe refer you for counselling.
