The Jews were expecting another warrior like King David, someone who would rise up and strike at the Roman oppressors. Jesus came preaching love and forgiveness and refused to use force or violence. He also claimed to be God by calling himself the Son of Man, a name they recognised from scriptures, and he called God his father, which was not acceptable to them. He claimed the ability and the right to forgive sins, which was also a claim to be God as only god could do those things. Many Jews did follow Jesus of course, but it was the ones with all the power who engineered his death.

They were looking for the Messiah of Kingship, not the Messiah of the Suffering Servant. They wanted Rome overthrown, but not enough to actually do it. They were pragmatic about their situation and wanted to keep the peace such as they knew it. Originally, many Jews did not reject Jesus. The original Christians were Jews. By the time Christianity went to the gentiles and got hybridized with the multiple pagan religions it replaced, the Jews couldn't adopt it. Some Jews don't reject the idea that Jesus might be God's Son, but they do reject the idea that Jesus might be God.

At the time there had been a lot of prophets or preachers that had been assessed on occasion as the messiah. It was a constant theme and everyone was waiting for a man to lead them to spiritual redemption or set them free of the Roman occupation.
Jesus had become a nuisance to the community and the political hierachy, including those at the Temple. Despite the generally passive nature of his protest he was regarded as a subversive.
So consequently when the chips were down the crowd chose Barabus.

The story of Jacob and Esau was a near/far casting prophecy of things to come. Esau was the first born and due to inherit all his father had but because he was more concerned with fleshly things, his appitites, he abhored his birth right and sold it to his brother for a simple meal. Esau represents the Jews who hated the weighty laws that the religious leaders had loaded them down with while not adhereing to those laws themselves. They had begun to make a mockery of the 10 Commandments by burdening them with ceremonial cleansing laws, sacrificial laws and etc. For instance if a Jew were to physically touch a gentile they were considered ceremonially unclean and had to ritually bath their hands. The Hebrews had been complainers and idoloters many times over since the exodus from Egypt and God had warned that their time would be ending and it would then be the time for the Gentiles to be brought in to the fold and so the Gentiles are representative of Jacob. It was Jacob who grappled with an Angel in the desert in want of a blessing and so the Gentiles were eager to fight and die in order to belong to Christ. However, there is a remant of Jews who have never fallen away and these Jews down through the centuries are Messianic...meaning they recieve the New Testament of Jesus Christ. During Christs time Jesus had many Jewish believers and disciples and it has always been this way. They are the first chosen people of God and always will be. The Jewish leaders rejected Jesus as the Messiah because it disturbed their comfortable way of life. He constantly showed them their hypocracy. There are so many other details involved in the Jewish sin offering and sacrificial atonement rituals that were met through prophecy by Christ that it would take several pages to list them and one would have to know a bit about Jewish culture in Biblical times...however, much of it had to do with Jesus being the Lamb of God and how He freed the Children of God from the burden of blood atonement by giving Himself for our sins. Love in Christ, ~J~

1/ since the jews saw him born out of a human being thats why it took them time to believe that he was the son of god
2/ the bible tells us that god didnt want jesus to sent to this earth just like an angel but god wanted jesus to come on earth like everyone of us and that he must face the very same pain we alwez have so that who so ever believe in hih should have an everlastin life
3/ after jesus died on the cross so many jews believed him because of the darkness they had never seen at 3pm and the rising from the dead made man to strongly believe that he was the son of god and that is why you and i still say jesus is the son of god you know why because you believed in him and that you find jesus as the right way to eternal life

It is a strange coincidence this question should be asked at this time, because last night I had a O.O.B.E. and went to heaven and, surprisingly, was met by Jesus.
He told me not to be alarmed and said that although he did exist, he had got it wrong about being the son of a god, and, furthermore, he said, god does not exist. And that is why the Jews would not accept him.
He spends his time greeting those who have passed over, telling them not to look for a god because there isn`t one.
I thought that was very honest of him, not surprisingly, and we became good friends. Then he told me to `"go back,` your time is not yet."
Then I woke up. Not that I expect many people to believe this!

Many accepted Him. However, He was rejected of His own because it was prophecied. Without it the Atonement and resurrection could never have taken place. Without it the Gentiles wouldnt have been grafted into the covenant.
But the Jews will come to recognize Him as their Lord when He stands on the Mount of Olives and shows them the wounds in His hands, feet, and sides. They will ask Him what those wounds are from and He will tell them.
You see Christ's covenant with the Jews is still in force. The Lord will still gather all of Israel together again. And He has begun with the scattered sheep of Ephraim. And through Ephraim the House of Israel will be pushed back together.

if he came back today would you believe him.
he may have come back but and for all we know be in some mental institution somewhere in the world.
if he stood on the steps of the Tate gallery and tried to interrupt he would be locked up very quick.
in the statements I have just made lies the answer they did know he was the son of god until approx 150 years after his death when some bright spark said he as the son of god.
so in fact the jews did not reject him they did not know at the time who he was. to them he was some kind of prophet saying things most ppl at the time did not even understand.

It was the religious folks. Not the ones who knew that He was the Son of God. What does that tell you?

the jews believe Jesus hasn't come to earth yet, and that he will come when the jews are having a hard time on earth. they also believe Jesus is a prophet.
the muslims believe Jesus was a Prophet (messenger of God). The muslims, at jeus's time accepted him as a Phrophet, whereas the Jews did not.
he is not the son of God.
