I signed the pledge. I hate puppy mills to. Until I started volunteering at the Humane Society of Hamilton County. (Indiana) I had no ideal that this problem existed. I adopted two dogs that where rescued from a puppy mill. There names are Balto (Siberian Husky) and Kalo (German Shepherd Dog). Both dogs where infested with parasites and Kalo had heart worm. They are both thriving today and are very happy. Thank you for posting this web sight. God bless.

They either go to the shelter, are killed and dumped, abandoned , used to perpetuate the cycle or are auctioned off to someone else's breeding program. Another option is being sold straight from the 'breeder's' home to some poor unsuspecting sap who thinks 2500$ for a mutt is worth it. ETA: queenchef93 Puppy mills do NOT have ANY 'high-quality' animals. They don't care about genetic issues, inbreeding or health problems. Puppies are money and the more dogs they have pumping out puppies the more money they make. ETA: Yes, dogs have it rough. Many of them end up unwanted because their owners are retards, being used for profit, destroyed, abandoned and worse. That's a big part of the reason that all dog owners/dog lovers need to stand up and work towards ending puppy mills, irresponsible ownership and the pet over population. It's an individual choice but each person does make a difference. I personally blow thousands of dollars a year on my animals and NONE of that money goes to ANY store which sells live animals. That's thousands of dollars a year which doesn't go to lining the pockets of puppy mills, BYBs and the like. It's not world-changing alone but combine it with several thousand people doing the same with their pet-funds and it does add up to a large profit-loss.

It may be helpful to give a little more information about puppy mills here, rather than making people click the link to find out what they are. Believe it or not, some people don't know what they are.

Help stop them by educating those who don't know. Also don't support backyard breeding and puppymills by buying thru the newspaper, at the Farmers Market, Flea Markets, Petstores etc..
Support rescue and responsible breeding.

I signed the pledge and would a million times over if i was allowed, more public awareness needs to be brought up like this, to many times it is mentioned and then forgotten... All it takes is one voice to make a difference....

I agree with Jess, most people have no idea about puppymills. This type of breeder make me sick. Overbreeding, their cruel debarking method, and total lack of caring except how much money the next litters will make them.
