I've recently decided to practice Wiccan teachings... and I know that people where I live aren't very accepting of people who aren't Christian, but I'm also sure that I am not going to hide who I am for the sakes of them. Am I making a dumb choice do you think? Or should I keep to being myself like I think is more important? Email divine_embraces@yahoo.com if you don't feel like posting an answer here.

I always support people being honest about themselves. You should use common sense, but Wiccans frequently expect to be persecuted when in fact their communities really don't care one way or the other. Don't throw it in their faces, as that is obnoxious no matter what religion you are, but if you're comfortable with being out of the closet, I'm totally behind you on it. Also, try not to expect people to have a problem with it. If you go into a situation expecting a fight, you will probably end up with a fight. I've been out for a decade and have had no major trouble ever.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are and if you don't want to hide your religion, don't. I wouldn't run up and down the street yelling that you're Wiccan, there is an approprate time and place to tell people these things. You aren't making a stupid choice because you shouldn't be ashamed of your religion. If people don't accept you for who you are, they're not worth your time. Personally, I think we could do with more Wiccans who choose to stay out of the broom closet. Good for you and blessed be. )O(

To understand reality is not the same as to know about outward events. It is to perceive the essential nature of things. The best-informed man is not necessarily the wisest. Indeed there is a danger that precisely in the multiplicity of his knowledge he will lose sight of what is essential. But on the other hand, knowledge of an apparently trivial detail quite often makes it possible to see into the depth of things. And so the wise man will seek to acquire the best possible knowledge about events, but always without becoming dependent upon this knowledge. To recognize the significant in the factual is wisdom

You should follow whichever path you want to follow, but you also need to be careful not to get yourself lynched just because you live near some very closed-minded individuals. If they can't accept wiccan that is one thing, but if it is going to cause you trouble such as threats from people who know who you are then please hide it until you feel safe. You can still be who you are, just be careful of who you give all the facts to.

I live in an area where the majority of people are the same religion, me included, and it always makes me sad when I hear that someone thinks I wouldn't be accepting just because they are different. There might be people that wouldn't be accepting of you but I think you might be pleasantly surprised at how many people would be.

Why would you subscribe to something you don't believe? No TRUE fullfilment will come of it.

Why not throw it in their faces? They throw theirs in yours....make 'em eat it! Be proud of your choice, be firm in your beliefs, and don't let peer pressure determine what mould you put on your soul.
