I have to create a toolbar which sort of acts like a filter. The toolbar has several options like when u click on the arrow, several options come up. It's similar to clicking the file command. I want to create something like a calendar and when i choose august, excel will lead me to the month of august. do give me a detailed write up as i'm not very good with macros.

You are somewhat vague in how you are planning to create the calendar.

To add a new toolbar button select:

Tools > Customize...

Then make sure the Commands tab is selected. From the Categories list select Macros. Then select and drag Custom Button to whatever toolbar you want it in. Then right click on the new button. You can then change the button image. You can also assign a macro to it. Assign Macro... should be at the bottom of the list. Then pick your macro to assign to the button. Unless the Macro is added as an Add-In, the macro will only work when that file is open.

To create an add-in. Put the Macro in a pretty much blank workbook and save the file as a .xla file.

As far as how to write the Macro, that is all going to depend on how you set up the calendar. So I can't really tell you more without knowing more.
