Neither of my parents have Biblical names. Only half of my siblings have Biblical names. Fewer than half of the next generation has a Biblical name. Interestingly enough, none of our names come the Book of Mormon.

Instead of sticking to religious texts, we normally have one name from our family history and one unique name. It has become somewhat of a tradition of some of my siblings to give their children an English name and a Hawaiian name.

I know families that do feel a conviction to name all their children by using Biblical names, but I don't think this is needed at all. Usually, it is families that are very strict, very conservative, and very fundamentalist. They tend to homeschool, have several children, and raise their kids in the church. I've seen this in other cases where it had nothing to do with the things I've mentioned, but where I get my conclusion is simply my own experiences. But, for me, if my children happen to have a Biblical name it would simply be because I like the name -- nothing more than that.

Both of them ended up with names of women from the old testament, but it was not on purpose. Our first was named from a dream that her grandma had, and for our second, we both really liked the name.
Neither one of our familes are into naming children after people in the bible. We actually got flak though for not naming them after someone in his family (that's his side of the family's thing).

ha ha....no. And I have 2 daughters so if I had felt that way and I were to have another one, I think we'd be out of names.

(Don't have a cow, I'm kidding....kind of)

There is always pressure - pressure from parents, family, even pastors.....

Pray about it. Decide upon a name that you feel that God wants the child to have.

Go for it.

god bless
