The TV in particular is the latest 50" samsung 720p dlp. If you have it, hook it up to a computer and see what the highes res you can choose is, and that will give me my answer. Thanks. And by the way I want to know so I know what video card to get for the computer I build.

IF your TV did NOT have a "1080P" sticker on the front of the TV set when you bought it.....It ACTUALLY is a 720 line display that you are watching....

Sure it can process a 1080 signal....onto a 720 display. You've heard of scaling...that's what it does, downscale the 1920 x 1080 information given it to fit the 1280 x 720 display....

That TV is middle of the line in Samsung's line...the 1080P units have been out, and the 1080P with LED lamps are the TOP of the LINE....
So your TV is the third from the top....

Yeah, it is 1280x720. But it's a 50 inch TV, so a proper viewing distance for it is at least 8-10 feet away. Sit too close and it will look like crap.
