Distilled water is water that has had all the minerals removed from it. (Think of it like boiling water and collecting the steam.) These minerals are good to have in the drinking water of your rats. Distilled water is better for things like coffee makers (like someone mentioned) because it does not leave deposits in the machine.
Tap water or filtered tap water is better for the rats. It has all the things in it that their water should have.

This is anecdotal, but I one rat breeder I knew of gave some of her rats only bottled water, and the others regular tap water. The bottled rats all lived longer.

As for vitamins and minerals, as long as your rats' diet is high quality they should be ok.

My guess is that distilled and bottled water would both be fine.

I give my rabbit bottled water. I know it's not a rat, but distilled is very clean and people use it in their coffee, etc. But I wouldn't give it to rats because I don't know what it does.

Best of luck! :o)

Either of them will do fine. My friend gives his rat just regular tap water, and she's perfectly healthy, and since both bottled and distilled water are cleaner than tap water, either option will work. Just give your rat whatever's cheapest, I guess.

Distilled water is void of minerals that are essential to pet health. Tap water has everything you pet rat needs.

I give my rat bottled water. I figure if the tap water tastes nasty enough that I won't drink, then why should he? SO he gets the same water as I have. Have to take care of our little friends, right?

Distilled water will work fine. My rats did just fine on regular water and I live in AZ where the water isn't that great for you lol. If your rat(s) aren't heavy drinkers though, try to remember to change it often, especially open bowls since they like to clean themselves in it.

All our animals get bottled spring water, the same stuff we drink. If I'm unwilling to drink from our tap, I could hardly expect anyone else to like it. I don't care foir the way distilled water tastes either, so I'm not putting it in anyone's water dish.
