It is essentially about Saddam thumbing his nose at every resolution passed by the United Nations regarding his nuclear program.

The single word answer is: empire.

We were at first told that the war was about 9-11 and weapons of mass distruction.

When that didn't hold up, we said it was to bring democracy and stop the spread of terrorism. (I think we can see that it's more like pouring gasoline on the fire)

Any thinking person willing to dig a bit deeper will see that these are not the real reasons. The US government, whether Dem or Rep, has always presented its foreign policy to the American public as a kind of benevolent community service to the world. The American people very much need to believe this myth. We never name the "American Empire" by name. But that's exactly what it is.

The Iraq war has been many years in the making. At least since the 1980's.
The main goals are as follows:

1) To attain military bases in this very crucial region. We now have 14 permanent military bases in Iraq. We have not given them back with the transfer of sovereignty to the Iraqi civil government. We intend to keep them and it is entirely legal to do so.

2) To gain direct control of petrolium and other resources. Various contracts can be drafted with the new Iraqi government with Very favorable terms for
American corporations. These corporations are really getting a great free ride here, since the costs of the war are paid by the American taxpayers but the benefits are enjoyed by the corporations.

3) To stir up more trouble in the region which will result in even more direct control. Iran is next.

4) Another side benefit is all the money to be made from post war reconstruction as well.

Stabilizing a foreign government until its stong enough to stand on its own two feet.

Getting the message across that civilized people in this day and age, do NOT put up with terrorism.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety; is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of men better than himself"
John Stuart Mill

Sorry, somtimes the truth hurts the Democrat agenda.

It's about you, free citizen of a democratic country. It's you who wants a war in Iraq... else you would stop it. Don't think Bush or anybody holds the power to stop the will of the free people of America.

First in 2003, was Saddam and his 17 MAJOR violations of UN resolutions, which many here "seem to forget".......!!!!!!!!!, he was on them due to basically been basically a convicted felon (Saddam) on parole due to his little incursion into Kuwait in 1991, THEN all throught the 1990's violating his "parole" (UN sanctions) and getting away with it , and been asked to pay for those violations FINNALLY in 2003!!!!

some of his violations were for example even firing missiles at our pilots in the UN "No fly Zones" imposed after the war of 1991, attacks that occured all the way up to the late 1990's!!!!!,

ACTS of WAR in themselves!!!!!!!! which were reason enough to go in there and kick his "behind"!!!!

http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1p1-19289981...

but again may here seem to FORGET that, do you "people"????

...ALSO....never mind that the butthole paid money to terrorist attacking civilians in Gaza and the West Bank...never mind that right?????

and on and on and on...no , all we hear is the Iraq war was wrong bla bla bla......bulll...bull....bull.... !!!!

he had it coming to him period!!!!!

now after the invasion, it is Alqaeda in a small part there, but moslty extremists Sunnies (some which are ex-Saddam loyalists) and extremist Shiites who were oppressed by Saddam for decades fighting for dominance...!

it is simple but most people can not "see the trees" now adays....
