That is of course too many percocet per day. If you have chronic and constant pain Percocet is a really poor choice. Secondly you really should not have more than 8 per day just based on the acetaminophen content. That aside. Anyone with constant and chronic pain should be on a long acting narcotic analgesic as the percocet really only last in you system at an effective dose for about 4 hours. It is now felt that tapering the dose does not have a significant effect on the length or severity of withdrawal symptoms in persons who are physiologically dependent.

I would recommend trying 1 tablet every 4 hours. As your body has adapted to the medication, if you have not managed the condition which is the source of the pain then one tablet every 4 hours will probably leave you looking for the bottle.

If you are being given these medications by your family or non pain medicine provider, then ask for a consult to a pain specialist. They can switch you to a more effective medication with less side effects which will help get you off the couch. Then manage the reason for taking the medications. Once the pain is controlled properly a taper may be used to decrease your medication requirement and even get you free of meds.

I was on chronic pain meds for 5 years, and had a difficult withdrawal, but overall it is worth it to be off the meds.

your addicted, it is very hard to taper yourself. you really need to want to quit. you could reduce by 5% every 4 days. you could grab a couple 8mg suboxone and do a 7-10 taper with that, this is the least painful way. Remember one thing, nothing will take the initial cravings away so you really have to have a strong desire to quit. You need to get off the couch as well, start going for daily walks, start a daily vitamin routine, lose the drug connections, re kindle relationships with non users. it is a process but again nothing will work until you are firmly committed because it is difficult to stop.

As you know, Percocet is a Strong Narcotic. Have you spoken to the Physician who has prescribed these meds for the last 2 years? There are ways to detox, and I commend you for doing so. Sounds like you are trying hard. Please talk to ur Physician about this situation. They will have the answer. Good Luck & Take Care!
