that child would be your 3rd cousin.

it goes like this

your mom's mother is sisters with your mom's aunt.
Her child will be your mom's cousin as well as your second cousin.
Then, the child of your second cousin would be your mom's second cousin and your third cousin.

Whew

Let us call your mother Teresa, her aunt Elizabeth, and her father Ted, for reasons you will see.

Elizabeth & Ted = Siblings
Edward & Teresa = 1st cousins
Eudora & Tyler = 2nd cousins

(Why anyone would name a child after an E-mail program is beyond me.)

Elizabeth is Teresa's aunt. Tyler is Teresa's son. Eudora is your aunt Elizabeth's grandchild. You and Eudora are 2nd cousins. When you have children (Elissa and Thomas) they will be 3rd cousins. Their children will be 4th cousins.

Your mother and her cousin (the grandchild's parent) would be first cousins.

You and the cousin are first cousins, once-removed.

You and the grandchild are second cousins.

Your moms aunts kid would be your 2nd cousin, their kid would be your 3rd cousin. And yes they would be a part of your family tree, if you ask me. Now another person might not agree, its up to you if you want to include them in your tree or not.

Your Mothers' Aunties' kids would be your Mothers' cousins.
So your Mothers' cousins kids (on the same generation level as you).
But they are 1 step away from being cousins.
That makes them 2nd cousins to you.
