It is called oral allergy syndrome. I used to be allergic to almost all raw fruits and vegetables. Just getting the juice of melon on my hands would make them break out in a rash. It is considered to be linked with pollen allergies, especiallly ragweed. After I had allergy desensitation shots for five years, my allergy to raw fruits and vegetables went away! Now I can touch them and even eat them, I can even eat salad too.

WOW! I thought I was the only one. I am not allergic and never have been to anything. However, sometimes, not always (I assume it has to do with the ripeness), I get the itchy scratchy feeling in my throat after eating honeydew melon. Only honeydew. Only sometimes.

Maybe you are allergic to them. I know I'm allergic to Cantalope, and i get wierd bumps blistery bumps all over my tongue. But it's wierd because i can eat other melons, just no that one. Just stopping eating them, eat some other fruit that you enjoy.

It is from the pesticides they put on them. If I eat organic melons or ones I grow myself, no problem.
