Not if you do it properly.

If you just take the lobster, alive and kicking and try to throw it into the pot, it won't taste very good. Not to mention, it's not very humane to toss something alive and aware into a pot of boiling water.

Anytime an animal is killed while alarmed or excited, it is pumping adrenaline through its body and causes tough meat with an off taste.

You can put the lobsters to sleep by putting them in the freezer for a little bit, keeping them alive and then they won't be trashing around like mad when you're trying to toss them into the pot. It's a lot more humane this way.

For anyone who wants another way to kill the lobster... you can stab them in the head, but a lobster with a smashed head looks awful on a plate.

There is a reason why lobsters are usually sold alive, or just tails. When something dies, the urea in the body starts to break down the tissue. In fish, this is called belly burn or gut rot. It also causes a horrible fishy, rotten smell and turns the protein into mush. This is why fish are generally sold already eviscerated... prevents belly burn and keeps the fish fresh longer. Lobsters are no different, if you kill them and leave them whole, if you crack it open later, it will no longer be fit to eat.

So, to answer your question: I don't think it's wrong, if you go about it the right way.

No.

Why? Religious believe they were created to feed humans so justifying the cause. Scientist say that although animals seem to communicate they are not able to think and thus cannot speak. They believe all communication is instinct. Due to this some people think that there inability to think separated them from human kind and thus makes it OK to eat animals.

Focus on lobsters, there is no real humane way to kill a lobster. Boiling however is the most humane. The lobster does not have an autonomic nervous system that puts it into a state of shock when it is harmed. So stabbing or slicing it open first just feels like your legs being cut off for example just that at some point our nervous system goes into shock and subsides the pain. Boiling does not hurt them because there are not pain receptors in the skeleton. Some might ask why then do they squirm when placed in water? This is because the hot water causes joints to swell and they can feel the pressure of this taking place. They can feel the pain with their eyes or any other exposed parts that are not skeleton.

It's just the circle of life to me. I think that its inhumane for a lion to rip apart a deer while its alive, or for a wolf to eat a rabbit, but most say its the circle of life. Is this is true is it not the same circle that allows us to eat lobsters or other creatures. As long as the animal is not endangered I say eat on!

The other alternative is stabbing them in the head first so I am not sure which is worse. Stinks for the lobster either way. I am glad I don't eat them cause this is making me feel bad to think about lol

I know I probably couldn't be the one to drop them in. I've never eaten lobster in my life. Seems like way too much work for very little payoff, no matter how good it tastes. Pizza's good, too, and it's soo much easier.

Absolutely yes, I would never ever eat lobster for that reason.

No, Because if you kill the lobsters first and let them sit for a while they have a small poisonous sac that erupts inside there intestines and spreads through out and you will probably get sick. Just stick them right in boiling water. Or you c`an cut them down the middle and clean them out you will see the sack as you clean them.

Sincerely yours,

Seems kinda cruel to me. I mean....I wouldn't want to be boiled alive. I wouldn't want anyone I know to be boiled alive. I wouldn't want my pets to be...so yeah...it's not great.
