I read on Wikipedia that most religions are non-profit organizations. I have a religion in its infant stages. Suffice to say, it isn't nearly as bad as Scientology, and at the end of church there's free pie. How would I begin to legitimize my religion legally?

I suggest looking up L.Ron Hubbard.
Many of the principles of advertising also work for religion. Advertise miracle cures, the "true path," that sort of thing.

Get yourself ordained; I'm sure you can find an ad or three in the back of Rolling Stone. Get yourself a California Doctor of Divinity, and go to town. I'll be prayin' for ya - good luck ;-)
Try reading "Stranger in a Strange Land," by Robert Heinlein, too. You aren't the first (or the last) to come up with the idea, and it's a cool book!

Anyone can start a religion. All you need is a bunch of dummies who will believe and follow everything you set down as "beliefs," "rules," and "regulations." You don't even need an education. Once you got that together find out the legal requirements for your state to start a "church" and get your "license" or whatever they require plus your exempt status.
If you want to start a FAITH, which will be challenged by other religions, though, you will NEED an education as many will be attacking you and your faith. Mine took 37 years to complete 3 PhD's, and am ordained in my faith and Spiritual Humanism...

Read up on how the founders of cults that now seem to be organised religions, e.g. Mormons, Jehovahs Witnesses, got into the act and see how you can adapt the process to the 21st. century. Train to be a TV evangelist is another suggestion. Enlist the help of a tax lawyer to get non-profit status

Just go tell everyone you know that you are God now. Get some followers work a few miracles. You have to make them pay. If there is no suffering people won't stay interested. It may be necessary to sacrifice yourself, you know to give the movement something to get behind.

He's not watching me so hard anymore so maybe He is freeing up time for you.

I think you have to have like 20'000 followers for the governments to recognize it,,,just tell people what they want to here

Just start getting people to believe with enough people saying they believe it will become legit and eventually legal.

and Have the holy Bible
and start pray the lord's prayer in the mornning .
you must share the faith with others.

belive in something....tie a lot of people down and try to brainwash them into giving you all of their money...then buy a small island somewhere and have all your people stay at that island so you can preach and preach and preach!
