I have heard that in MEPS you have to slam your knees on the ground in front of a doctor. What is this test for and is it supposed to hurt? I just cant see the purpose behind this.

To demonstrate the presence of osteochondritis dissecans of the knee and upper tibia area. You will be going through this sort of "knee slam" in basic training during weapons training and such a condition is disqualifying for enlistment or appointment.
It's a fairly common condition among young people. What happens is that the top of your shin bone decalcifies in your teen years and recalcifies as a "floating bone" below your knee cap in early adulthood. It's also called Osgood-Schlatter Disease, although it really isn't a disease. What you need to do is run your thumb across the top of your shin bone and see if you can feel a notch. If you can, you probably have this condition. You will oly be disqualified if the "knee slam" shows symptoms of the conditions.

You have to drop to your knees suddenly on the cold hard floor, walk a few feet, turn around and walk back all on your knees. It will hurt, but just suck it up and don't complain or they will just kick you out. It's not so bad.

Yeah the stuff you do in there with 14 other people would be embarassing, except that you know that everyone else in the room is equally as embarrased, and the doctors have seen hundreds of candidates before you, so it's not a big deal.

Knee Drop!! kneel down so you are in the squat position, now drop both knees to the deck at the same time. Do not slam your knees!
That is roughly what you get told by the doc.

Nope, you have to do all sorts of duck walks and awkward moves to show your reasonable flexible. (like touching your hands above your head w/ extended arms) But I do not remember banging my knees against the ground.

PS. I hope you can pee with someone looking over your shoulder lol.
