I think it's a matter of personal preference, and if you don't mind your dog being on the furniture and the beds, then it's your choice. But something to consider is that you might get new, fabulous furniture someday and NOT want the dog on it ... then what will you do?
I DO allow my dogs on the couches, because they have the run of the house except for the bedrooms and bathrooms. OK, so I have to clean the couches a little more often ... but my feeling is that I'd rather have a dog on my couch than have a couch that's too nice for a dog.
As long as your dog doesn't have dominance-issues or aggressive tendencies, it's YOUR dog and YOUR couch ... so it's up to you.

Of course letting your dog on the bed and couch is not bad, it's your own personal choice to do so. And so what if he gets spoiled? Good for you if he is, there are to many dogs in the world that don't get enough spoiling as far as I'm concerned.
We have four dogs and they have the run of the house, including in the furniture. After all, they DO live here too!!!
They know when we say to "get off" to get down, but other than that, there is always a dog on the couch somewhere around here.

It is only bad if he feels it is his due right to be there. If the dog is just trying to be comfortable and shows no signs of dominance on the couch and bed and you don't mind the hair or smell then let it be. If the dog shows dominance, ie growling at a human that may try to move him off the couch or bed then he needs to spend some time off the furniture until retrained that he is not the boss. Some dogs may never be able to make the transition....We all know the saying give an inch and some dogs will turn it in to the mile

I hope to goodness children that are learning to wipe their butts and don't do a good job don't end up outside! In some cases, kids have accidents all the time because of some reason or other.
A dog is part of the family, keeps kids happy, walks or runs when no one else wants to go out and run with a person.
No humans home? the dog is there and keeps a person company. You are sad, cry, or just plain angry....the dog is there.
More then likely the guy that insulted the dog, did less of any of these things to make his home happy, but the dog was always there for her apparently.

This depends on your lifestyle, friends and family. I allow my pets on the furniture when it's family-only. They know not to try when company is over. But, I do have dog hair and spots on the furniture. It doesn't bother us; we're "love me, love my dog" people. But, if your family or very close friends are grossed out by that kind of thing, you may want to limit your dog to the bed, where company doesn't go. So long as you train them not to fight the guests for the good chair, I think it's all good.

Letting your dog on the bed and furniture is perfectly fine, the stipulation, the dog must move when you ask him too.
If he gets growly, or refuses to move, then its time to ban him from the furniture.
All my dogs have been allowed on beds and furniture without any problems, as have millions.
Go ahead, let them enjoy a comfy spot. Just remember, you're letting them borrow it, and they have to give it up if you want it.

No, it isn't bad as long as he waits until he is invited. With my dogs, they know better than to get up on the couch when there is no blanket on it. With the bed, they know not to lay on the bare sheets. They always wait until I put on the bedspread. It's all about setting "rules, boundaries, and limitations" as Cesar Millan would say.

As long as you are okay with it. If you think your dog is too spoiled, then try to teach him when to come over to the spot and when you want him off. I don't really think that he will get spoiled by this. If you give him everything he wants then that will be spoiling.

The rule with my dog is that she's allowed on the couches and furniture as long as she listens to me when I want her to get off of them.
If she were to ever be stubborn and not listen to me, there would be a "No Furniture" rule for a little while.
Oh and she's not allowed to eat on the couch--I don't want the gross rawhide slobber (you know what I'm talking about!) on my furniture.

It's a personal decision. My dogs are allowed on the furniture & are allowed to sleep in the beds.
