Yes. If you impersonate any military member by wearing a uniform, you are in violation of Title 18, U.S.C. Section 702).

If you impersonate a decorated soldier, you are in violation of the Stolen Valor Act (18 U.S.C. Section 704).

Technically, having the distinctive US ARMY, US NAVY, US AIR FORCE OR US MARINES tags on a fatigue shirt or BDU blouse that you purchased at the local surplus store is also a violation of the US Code.

I'm really glad they've passed this law. In 1987, when I was in Flushing, NY, some moron was walking around wearing his grandfather's Medal of Honor (at least that is who he told us it belonged to). The local police would not take any action. He wasn't wearing a uniform, just the medal. Both myself and the local recruiter tired to impress on him what a dishonor he was doing to his grandfather's memory, but this idiot just didn't get the picture.

Impersonating A Soldier

I got a problem with this, although I don t think anyone should impersonate a soldier for recognition, or to gain access to anyplace, I volunteer at the National Park Service once a year to play the role of an Indian War Soldier at Ft Larned NP. Sometimes I play an officer, sometimes an enlisted man, I got friends who are re enactors for WW2 units, appear on jeeps and tanks in parades and so on. I know lots of people that have worn their father s dog tags after his passing, and lots of kids worn out their father s old uniform playing soldier in the park. Just where is the line?

Yes, same thing applies to impersonating a soldier as does a peace officer.

Yes it is illegal to impersonate a member of the military, to wear medals you are not entitled to and comes under the Stolen Valour Act!
If a registered member of a re-enactment group then its allowed to wear the uniform of a military group.

capturing off from the pie hollow can't be stopped. If he's donning any uniform he's in violation of impersination. If donning classification A with medals and badges he's in violation, yet i'm no longer up on the stolen valor section. If he's "in" shield/Reserves or lively he has to have an identity card. If he has some Bravo Sierra tale why he does not have it in his possesion he's no longer in. If he won't be able to inform you the call of his DS/DI devoid of hesitation he's no longer in. If he won't be able to furnish the MOS and unit he belongs to or tells you that's categorised his head is so a techniques up his a$$ that he's asking out his own eyeballs. My sought after grow to be a homeless guy in SF telling me he grow to be a military Vet. once I requested what his fee grow to be he did no longer understand what i grow to be conversing approximately. once I requested his rank he could no longer remember. once I requested his MOS he agian merely stared back. once I requested what he did he mentioned he grow to be Infantry. have exciting tripping his dumb a$$ up and Phuq with him till ultimately the solar fails to coach. SSG US military seventy 3-80 two you're conscious that throughout basic terms 2.650,000 set foot in Viet Nam?.....yet in census questions over 10,000,000 have claimed to be one. 9,000,000 have been lively sixty 5-seventy 3. whilst i'm a "era" Vet I particular as hell say "i grow to be under no circumstances there" while the question is requested. My ingredient is the way a question is anwered will inform you volumes. looking away, hesitation and ,lower back, no longer understanding your Drill Serageants call. Yes the same rules apply as if you were dressed like a police officer. You can't use it to deceive people or gain access to restricted areas.

Yes it is. I think it is disgusting and disrespectful when I see some one wearing cut up Charlies and just walking around the mall. My husband is in the military and works hard at his job and then we see some dumb teenager cutting up a uniform so they can have the "cool" patches.

I don't think so.Thug rappers call themselves "soldiers" all the time and they ain't ****.They think a little gun fire in the hood qualifies them to be considered a "soldier" Dead wrong. They don't shoot rpgs at you'r car in the hood do they? nope they don't blow up your nice suv with ieds in the hood do they? nope maybe a little pistol match every now and then but that ain't ****.I'm interested how soulja boy got his name hmm he doesn't look like **** to me.Ha ha every thug wants to be a soldier so bad it's so funny they wear dog tags, timberland boots. They call themselves soldiers but never have the balls to sign up and risk being deployed to a real "war zone".
