That people actually believe in a God or Goddess? Or people who go around trying to impose their beliefs upon others. For example, Ideally if they were to believe would you rather them keep it to themselves or just not believe at all.

Note: I am an Atheist I would just like to hear opinions.

It's just humorous that they DO believe in gods/goddesses, if they were the end of it. But it is their proselytizing and extremism that really bothers me. If they COULD keep it to themselves, then great. But then can't and won't. Worse than the proselytizing is their pushing their religion into politics, thereby affecting MY life.

They can believe all they want... I don't even care if they preach too me... as long as they stop when I ask them to, and respect my own beliefs I see no problem in people believeing in a God or Goddess... However I do not stand for it if Hell is brought up!!!

I think that I have been told I am going to hell more than enough in my short life...

Believe in God and let people know then that is fine and you are a Christian, believe in Aliens and let people know then it is not so fine and you are a schizophrenic or have some other form of psychosis. Our society sucks! If you keep either to yourself, what does it matter to the rest of society? So, I guess as an agnostic, I guess I am not bothered either way ( I would say that being agnostic). The only time it bothers me, is when our world leaders use and abuse the system and makes laws based on (im)moral teachings of the Bible!

Belief itself is not necessarily the problem, or not the whole problem. People have believed weird things down through the ages -- "the shaman knows how to make your spouse remain faithful, the stars guide our destiny, string cheese is food, etc." -- and they have managed to function in spite of that.

But they haven't functioned as well -- IMO -- as they might have if they had shaken off irrational beliefs and wishful thinking. No amount of prayer could have produced anasthesia (sinful because it means women don't have to suffer in childbirth), skyscrapers (an expression of pride), calculus (science is anti-god at worst and a distraction from god at best), or democratic principles (bitterly opposed by monarchs and churchmen always and everywhere). Who knows what we might have achieved by now without the dead weight of religious dogma holding us back?

And in a democracy, government is supposed to work for everybody, not just for those who profess a particular creed, not even if they happen to be the majority.

I would prefer to have no human minds in thrall to superstition, but I don't expect that to happen for awhile yet. In the meantime, I will have to be content with keeping religion tamed and caged and relatively harmless.

I think it's great that people believe what they think is right. What I don't think is great, is when people preach to me about what they believe. I have no problem with people who are religious and believe in god, etc. I just have a problem when people try to make me believe what they believe in.

I would just rather then keep their beliefs to themselves, and I'll keep my beliefs to myself! Makes things a whole lot easier and more peaceful :)

I don't mind if people tell me their religion, but it does annoy me if they keep going on about and keep bothering me about being an Atheist and try to impose their beliefs on me. Does it make me angry that there are religions? Definitely not, I like learning about all different religions, the world wouldn't be as interesting without them. I may disagree with many things they agree with, but nobody agrees with everything some one else agrees with. Religion has caused many problems in the world all throughout history, but we also may not have what we have now if they didn't exist.

Hi,

Firstly, I find it really hard to understand why people believe there is a God in this day and age! With all the scientific evidence, the historical proof etc, why do people still have this blind faith? The fact that Christians BELIEVE, ACTUALLY BELIEVE that the earth is only 6000 years old....that shows pure stupidity and cultism to me!

So, to answer your question, I would rather not know of someones faith. it is irrelevant to me. I would rather not know I'm talking to someone who has these wierd opinions! And if they are to be so nieve as to believe in such nonsence, how are they going to judge and interact with me?

Those who impose their beliefs upon others.
I'm not sure if I'm an Atheist or not... I don't know if I believe in God anymore either.. But yeah, I talked to an Ex-Friend of mine.. and he was telling me all of this BullSh*t. Saying "It's the Devil's doing" and trying to make me believe in God.

I hate it.
I have strong opinions.
He can't change them.
No one can.
It's just aggravating.

I'm an atheist and a libertarian. That means I believe in (different from having faith in) the protection of liberty by diversity. In other words, the diversity of belief prevents any one group from oppressing all the others.

Sheer diversity --> No Majority --> No Tyranny --> Freedom
